Papercut #1: Animal Farm by George Orwell

The title might sound sweet and innocent, especially since the author himself called it a "Fairy Story". But do not be deceived, Animal Farm is anything but sweet.

Written in 17 August 1945 , Animal Farm begins with an introduction to the Manor Farm and Old Major, a pig, is troubled by a dream. He calls for a meeting in the barn and shares an ideology inspired by the dream: Communism.

As you can guess the story spirals from there. The animals revolt against the farmers, the political situation becomes bloody, and a tyrant becomes the leader. The animals are left in a situation far worse than they had been prior to the uprising and yet they carry on deluding themselves with promises of freedom and equality.

In comparison to the wide acclaim received by Orwell's 1984, Animal Farm stands underappreciated. While Big Brother may have struck a cord with the U.S NSA surveillance controversy, Orwell's satire for Communism, Nationalism, and the promise of Liberty and equality in this work proves timeless.
