One daughter's love

A king had three daughters but no sons, he was very old and knew he would answer the call of nature soon but the king have not decided who to live his wealth to. One day he called everyone for a grand feast and his three daughters came, colourfully dressed.
The king was happy at everyone present. He looked lovingly at his daughters and then asked the eldest daughter first, tell me how much you really love me, she looked into his eyes and answered, 'I love you more than all the gold in the world'. Her father was pleased with her answer and smiled. Then he asked the second daughter the same question and she stood up, hugged him and replied, 'father, diamonds cannot shine more brightly than my love for you'. The king was proud of her answer and glowed with happiness and then finally he looked at his last daughter, she was his favourite and he knew that she would say something truly special. 'Now, how much do you love me?' she knelt down quietly and thought hard for a few seconds and answered, 'father, I love you as much as salt'.
Her father was so amazed that he stood up and turned his back on her. 'I' m astonished that you can say such an ugly thing,' he shouted. Have I not always loved you the best? yet u repaid me with an insult, go away you ungrateful thing, you have broken my heart.
The older sisters, who had always been jealous of their father's love for his youngest daughter, grinned at each other and their sister left the room with tears in her eyes.
The king was not happy and he missed his youngest daughter alot and no one could make him happy as she had done. However his other daughters talked about him at his back and waited impatiently for him to die. Slowly the king lost interest in his people and began to make bad decisions.
Few months passed, and during that time, there was a serious quarrel with the kingdoms next door. No one traded any goods across the borders and it was impossible to buy essential things such as salt. The people could not get enough salt to dry their fish and meat. Food had no taste and their beautiful clothes lost their colours because they had no salt to make the dye stay in their cloth. The people became more miserable and wished if they could return to the good days when the king was wise and take good decisions with the help of his youngest daughter.
The king saw his people in their dull clothes, looking hungry and sad and he thought deeply. 'what is the use of all this golds and diamond in my palace when my people are suffering?' he said to himself.
'Now I realise that salt is much more precious than riches. I have been a fool. My youngest daughter is the wisest because she knows the true value of things. Her answer was the best. When I die, her wisdom will make her the greatest leader we have had. I must call her back immediately and apologise to her in front of everyone. She deserves to inherit this great kingdom'.
