EPISODE 38

Rominick sat down on the mat and watched the switch cast the spell. Her

eyes were closed, while she jumbled her mouth to spew incoherence words

Rominick could not understand. He stayed still as the smoke of burninghurricane lantern sneaked their way into his nostril without moving an

inch to prevent them. This was something he was used to whenever he

came to visit Harnold.

Harnold was a very powerful witch who resided in a recluse mountain in

Woodville. Woodville was a small town neighbouring to Laraba and

Locksley town. Harnold was known to be the most powerful witch in the

whole of the sorceress dominating the three town, and the reason being

that just like Thalia the seer, Harnold was also a messenger of Zedicus—the

god of mountain and destiny.

Harnold was not a human, neither was she a spirit. She was simply an

entity with a vast knowledge of witchery who had chosen a body of an old

haggard woman to survive right from the time she was appointed by

Zedicus to look over the mountain. That was something she has been doing

for the past 1000 years ever since Zedicus was turned into a god.

Rominick had taken time to study the person who was in best position he

could slink to in other to support his mission. The supernatural were his

niggle-enemy, and even the once he was contending with, so they were

definitely out of options except for the puppet whom he decided to use which was Jamal and Adriana. Rominick decided to meet Harnold, and

after explaining his mission, the sorceress had accepted to help him out.

But a condition he produced something—so importance to the mission.

Harnold flicked her eyes opened to see Rominick’s face crestfallen. She was

done with the spell she was casting. The smoke emanating from the

hurricane had died down, allowing crisp air to creep into Rominick’s

nostril.

“You really need to smile, it does more help to body.” She mouthed, as she

wobbled herself from the mat and sat on a woollen chair.

Rominick twitched his nose. “I can’t, when I’m not happy. I smile only

when I’m happy.” He said.

“So why are you not happy, Rominick?” she asked.

Rominick shook his in dismay. His countenance was gloomy. “The boy

wouldn’t bulge. I mean he is just too stubborn.”

The witch nickered wanly, exposing her teethes mouth. “This is part of the

hurdles you need to get through before you attain your victory. You don’t

have to be discourage.” Harnold explained.

“Can I dump him for another lamiae available? There are hordes of them in

Laraba I can easily select for this task?”

Harnold shook his head. “No! Khalid is the right target for your mission.

You need to look for a way to coerce him to do your bidding. No mistakes

Ryan, lest not to get Zedicus angry with you.”

Palpable sweats frittered across his face as he listened to the witch. The

witch meant it when she said troubles loomed for him if there was a

mistake on his part. And moreover, he wasn’t even ready to back out on

his revenge mission till he had succeeded.

“What about the werewolf, hope she is a good choice?” he managed to ask

amidst his deplorable state.

The witch spooked a smirk and nodded. “Choosing a female-werewolf is

not a problem. All you need to consider is her dexterity.”

“Thanks Harnold.” Rominick said, as he stood up to take his leave.

He was happy about the werewolf, he made a good choice. At least once or

twice he had stealthily watched Adriana transformed, and as enormous as

her wolf was, it would be good for his mission. But for that Jamal, he

would do everything within his power to force him to take to his bid.

“Be careful Rominick, remember you mission is at stake here and more

importantly, you wouldn’t want to incur Zedicus’ wrath on you.” Harnold

neighed closely behind him, while Rominick grumbled something under

his breath and exit the mountain.

Two profound qualities about Xavier was his astuteness in pushing out his

jobs and the steadfastness in which he carried out Rominick’s orders. Ever

since the Mr Rominick requited him at the inception of his mission for

retribution, Xavier had been steadfast about dashing out good result for

any order.

Now that his next mission was to find who was Ryan Jericho—the

acclaimed Jamal’s biological father, Xavier had adroitly devised a way to

that—and he was sure that in a moment, the so-called Ryan’s skull would

be gracing the gallop he had prepared and already used to rest countless of

craniums.

Xavier waited for his laptop to boot before connecting his phone with it

through the USB port. He had collected Rominick’s phone before so he

could use the text being forwarded to his phone to locate the anonymous

sender. Rominick had dropped orders that he needed Ryan to be abducted

before his son got close to him—that was exactly was he was going to do.

After connecting the phone with laptop, he tapped on the keyboard

immensely, and clicked on the mouse myriad of times. Not long after, a

map appeared on the screen with different streak of lines appearing like

twigs, apparently leading to diverse locations on the map. Xavier tapped

and tapped with vast attention on the keyboard till a particular spot on the

lines was tainted with a red indicator. On seeing that, a fulfilled smile

climbed his lips. He just got the perfect location of their mysterious text-

sender.

Xavier picked his revolver, slid it inside his holster. Then he sent his target

location to his phone and closed his laptop. Before delving his phone into

his pocket, he glared at it screen. An idea came on him. The location that

was beeping inside the phone was known to be largely dominated by the

vampires. He groped inside his backpack and brought out large quantity

vervain. He might in need of that, if his target happened to be vampire.

All set and done, Xavier warped out another evil grin, rubbed the holster

holding his gun then mouthed.

“Time for showdown.” He maundered.

Jamal’s face was soaked with slippery sweat. Goosebumps strewed on her

skin as he tried to read the message over and over again—still he couldn’t

get meaning. What game was Meshach playing with him? He dumped him

more than thirteen years ago only to start sending tosh texts to him.

Perhaps this was one of his shrewd way of crawling back to his life.

Jamal peered his eyes on his phone again and read the message the

untempt time. He concentrated on the part ‘your biological father—Ryan

Jericho, is still alive’ more. Reading the text alone exuded out a feeling

candour. Meshach wouldn’t just crop just a lie as blatant as this just to

crawl back into his life. But then, Meshach had always been a fibber. Jamal was in dilemma on what to believe. Could his biological father be still

alive? Meshach had never told him his father was dead though, he only

said he was attacked by the monsters before he scrammed off or probably

went limbo. He didn’t want to believe his biological father was alive all the

while he was basking lonesomeness and pain. What type of father does

that? He decided to hoard the question for their encounter. And as for

Meshach also, he had prepared the petard the he would be hauling at him.

Jamal wiped the sweat from his brow, slid into his car and turned on the

ignition. He was going to work. Work was a very huge hospital bestowed

on him by Rominick. He had thought Rominick would stand by his threats

by taking back all what he had achieved through him, he was ready to

submit everything to him just to be free from his hook. Rominick’s attitude

had really proven that there was indeed no benevolent soul on earth again.

He should have known there was indeed a sleazy reason for all the act of

benevolence bestowed on him right from the time he picked him up from

the slum. And the reason was to coerce him into a marriage with a girl he

didn’t love.

But like seriously, who did he really love? Tamara—is dead friend, or

Daisy— Adriana’s maid. Jamal caught himself in a dilemma. He tried to

weight the love he had for the two, and he could see that the love he had

for the two was equal. Except for the thought of who Daisy was a monster.

Jamal’s mind kept looping back to what Adriana’s said about her maid. He

replayed the picture of her transforming in his head over and over again. It

was the same way the woman that chomped her mother in the wood transformed right in his present. The thought kept eroding his mind. It was

a very tough decision for him. He couldn’t get to love a monster who killed

his mother and Tamara. No way. If Daisy was also a monster, then she

would be among the people he detested more and planned to seek revenge

on.

He treadled on the brake to bring his car to a stop. He needed to call

someone to ease away the tension in his body. He would divulge

everything divulgeable, so he could really know the right advice to give to

him. Hilton was not close to being a therapist though, but he was a maven

when it comes to women matters. His words could really secrete some

sense into him.

The phone toned at first dial. He nudged his head to brave up himself up

for what he needed to say. Jamal and Hilton had never really gotten along

ever since he went to university and came back home. Jamal knew Hilton

was not happy with him, conceivably he thought he had snatched his

father away from him. Jamal remembered how Hilton had shrunk in

disgust when he was hinted that he had been conferred a hospital by his

father. He had told him plainly that he couldn’t wait to see him get out of

his life for good. Because he had successfully rubbed him off his legacy.

“Hello.” A female voice drifted out. Jamal’s heart palpated for some

seconds on hearing the voice.
