How to Stop Beagle from Biting
At least once in a Beagles lifetime it will try to bite. The owners need to learn how to stop this while the Beagle is still a pup so that this behavior can be dealt with. The older the Beagle gets the more dangerous it will become and could end up biting a member of your family or have a go at strangers.
No mater how old your Beagle is when it starts to bite you need to take action quickly to stop it. It can be quite stressful trying to determine what it takes to control this behavior. Stop beagle biting now before it gets out of hand and someone gets really hurt and your beloved pet is taken from you
The most important time and perhaps the easiest time to pinpoint this behavior is when the dog is under 6 months of age and can be retrained because it is still in the formative years of its life. It is around this time that dogs generally learn how to bite in the wild. Owners seem to assume that when their puppies bite they are merely playing or teething and not really trying to hurt them.
The unfortunate thing that is happening here is that your puppy is learning to assert its position in the pack using its teeth to show who is in charge. This is the time to stop the biting because the puppy is still very open to learning. When the puppy is with its mother and the rest of the litter he/she will try and mimic them. A light nip on the neck, a whining noise when you get bitten, also give a toy to the dog instead of your hand as replacement therapy.
These are some ways to teach the dog that biting people is not acceptable. If you are finding it quite hard to teach your Beagle not to nip and bite then you could get help from an obedience school or perhaps hire a dog trainer
Your Beagle will think he is in charge of the household if he is allowed to get away with biting. As he gets older, around the one year of age, he will get more aggressive with his playing so it would be a good idea if you stop playing physical games with him such as tug of war, wrestling or other dominance related games.
Give your Beagle boundaries, stop allowing him/her the run of the house, cut down to a specific range of motion, even crate training them if necessary. Good obedience training program can be very helpful with a teenage dog that bites.
A dog always sees themselves as the leader of the pack unless they are taught that they are the follower and his master is the leader. If they continue to get away with biting, eventually it will evolve into a big problem as they becomes an adult dog. They could very easily turn on there owner. By the time your dog reaches one year of age and he is still biting you need to seek professional help immediately as there is serious danger that the dog might choose to assert his dominance at any time with an attack.
A few exceptions why a dog keeps on biting could be a mental disorder or a disease. Dogs who bite as adults could have had issues as puppies and these issues where never resolved. You need to start training your dog to stop biting at as early an age as possible.
