Can you stop blushing - true or false?
embarrassment, emotion, shame, pleasure, shyness: it is difficult to hide one's emotions, especially when blushing seems much stronger than us. Some people think that by learning to control themselves better you can stop blushing. True or false? We asked Professor Antonio Costanzo, head of Humanitas dermatology and lecturer at Humanitas University.
False. Stop blushing is not possible, on the contrary - replies the expert - the more you try to control the phenomenon, the worse the situation, because you could get to develop the fear of blushing (eryrophobia), so the skin reaction will occur even more often. Redhead is an uncontrollable and unconscious reaction, probably developed in our primitive ancestors as a defense mechanism. The blushing of the skin is caused by the adrenaline hormone that expands the capillaries in the surface of the skin, mainly the face, from which derives the purpureous complexion of which the cheeks are dyed. Adrenaline activates this reaction when we find ourselves in social situations not only embarrassing, but also when we receive a compliment and are pleased with it. To be able to accept this totally uncontrollable skin reaction, it is useful to remember that blush is not always a negative signal because, as some research has shown, it would be a demonstration of the fact that you are a sincere and open person. However, it is equally important not to confuse the blush with the redness of the skin, as the latter may be a sign of a chronic alteration of the skin called rosacea; in this case it is better to consult a dermatologist ".
