It's unfashionable to tell the truth. People don't want to hear it. Maybe that's why we're in big trouble here in the USA? So long as culture & law allow people to escape from shouldering their own responsibilities - many of them won't. Sometimes, people get confused by thinking that the pain of doing the right thing is preferrable to the pain of living in denial and shirking responsibilities. Inevitably, you learn that it is not - but everything sure seems nice, up until that point.
