Dow Jones weakened by Walmart
Stock indices in Europe looked weaker today but Asia maintained momentum with the Korean KOSPI outperforming its peers. The weakness in Europe was partly due to Wall Street Street stocks falling last night. The Dow Jones was dragged down thanks mainly to Walmart, which saw its shares fall over 10 per cent in its worst trading day since 2015. The firm said online sales had slowed when compared to figures from earlier in 2017 and 2016, which unnerved investors who will be worried about its ability to compete with Amazon and other rivals in future. The S&P500 and NASDAQ also suffered mild losses. Elsewhere the Dollar keeps rising against major currencies, helping to keep a lid on oil prices, with Brent Crude sat below $64.55 a barrel at the time of writing.
