Congenital Health and Diseases // SPINE COLUMN - ESTILO DE VIDA

in #stemsocial4 years ago

Hello dear readers. This post is one that I wanted to share with you to react to some habits of life that we do incorrectly.
First I will start by talking about the spine:

The vertebral column thus formed by the union of the different articulated bone units, constitutes an osteofibrous pillar whose function is to support the loads of the trunk and neck, house the spinal cord and allow the mobility of these regions of the body. Its approximate length of 70 cm with variations depending on size and sex.
From birth to young adulthood, the spine remains in continuous growth, then its length stabilizes, and progressively loses size in old age due to increased curvatures and flattening of the intervertebral discs.

The vertebral column in the frontal plane is practically rectilinear, and in the sagittal plane it presents four curvatures called kyphosis, when they have their concavity directed forward, and lordosis when the concavity is directed backwards.
Their presence is due to physical reasons, since as an elastic and flexible cylinder, the spine requires for the adequate cushioning of loads to be achieved, and for the projection of the body's center of gravity on the lower extremities; of alternating bends in the opposite direction. These begin to be established during the first year of life with the acquisition of certain motor functions.

Malformations or diseases caused by bad habits

The possible movements between two vertebrae are very limited, but the sum of them allows the spine to achieve significant mobility that includes flexion, extension, rotation and lateral inclinations; This is achieved by the presence of the intervertebral discs and the synovial joints between the processes or joint processes.
One of the least mobile portions of the spinal column is the thoracic, which is explained by the fixation of the ribs that also join the sternum in front to form the rib cage.

the intervertebral disc loses its elasticity over the years and decreases in size due to the fact that the proteoglycan gel that makes it up, becomes cartilage and loses water can contribute to this action factors such as smoking.

The joints between the vertebral arches made up of the discs are reinforced by the anterior and posterior longitudinal ligaments that extend the entire length of the spine.
When heavy loads are supported or weights are lifted in the wrong positions, the disc can suffer a lesson that is quite frequent. It consists of the displacement of the nucleus pulposus from its normal position, which occurs originally in position to the vertebral canal or to the conjunction hole, causing compression of the spinal cord and / or spinal media that cause pain or motor disturbances in the area. of distribution of the affected nerve. this picture receives the name of herniated disc.

The consequence of this is paralysis, not definitive but it would be painful to go through this stage. So let's try to take care of ourselves and try to stop these bad habits for health

I hope this information has been useful to you. I will be around here sharing with you a bit of all the content that I can think of and I hope to get comments and your help. Remember to take care of yourself during this time of quarantine and stay home.
