A: Why are children born from the same mum and dad not identical?

The short answer is that each sperm and egg only contains half of the genetic material of the parent. The distribution of genetic material to sperm/egg is mostly random so each sperm and egg have a unique genetic makeup. So you have a completely unique sperm and a completely unique egg combining to make one unique human :)
