Stemng Digest: Week #1

in #stemng7 years ago

Welcome to the maiden edition of stemng digest where we bring to you some of the best posts written under the stemng tag for the past one week.

Stemng is a sub-community of steemSTEM, a community driven project which seeks to promote well-written and informative Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics posts by Nigerians on Steemit. The project involves submitting quality STEM-related posts to the steemSTEM management for upvoting and resteeming where applicable.

For more information about stemng, click here and here for information of what it means to be part of steemSTEM.

After rummaging through all the STEM-related posts and submitting those deserving of curation to the steemSTEM management, we proudly present our stemng top 7 handpicked choices for this past week:

Saturday: The Rate Of Human Evolution And What We May Evolve Into

Do you believe in evolution? Perhaps it does not really matter we believe. Scientists have tons of evidence to support evolution. Do you wish to have a view of what future generations might look like? @samminator took us through what human might evolve into for millions or even billions of years to come.

Sunday: Cyanide detection in aqueous medium with novel Azo dyes

Cyanides are compounds with carbon to nitrogen triple bond. If you are someone that is interested in chemicals, chemistry or cyanide to be precise, read through as @turpsy took us through the process of cyanide detection in aqueous solutions using a novel azo dye.

Monday: Geospatial Big Data: The Magic of Maps and Money

OK. Here is the deal, you do not mess with big data. Mondays are usually big for many and it came big for us in stemng and steemSTEM this last week. @edumurphy was at 101% with this one as he analyzed how important data is. Impressing a Professor is a really big deal.

Tuesday: Firefly: The Star of the Twilight

I initially thought this post was about music (firefly by Owl city). Curiousity kills the cat but not in the case of @churchboy. His analysis of how the famous firefly gets its glow was quite interesting. If you wish to learn about luciferin, luciferase, and bioluminescence, perhaps you will want to check this out!

Wednesday: Maggot Therapy: The Future Of Therapeutic Medicine And Wound Healing

I got a bit of cold down my spine reading through this post. Apart from the theory of spontaneous generation, I never knew those ugly looking organisms could have any positive use. Thanks to @samminator for the enlightenment. Do you want to know how maggots are useful to humans? Take a look and find out!

Thursday: A Look at the Insulators Guarding Our Electricity

Insulators are awesome, right? But how about learning more about those that guard our high tension transmission and similar stuff? Check out this well-crafted post from @kaydee. You all can thank me later.

Finally......

Friday: Evolution & The Greatest Breakthrough of Our Time

It's @churchboy again! (not donjazzy this time). Do you all think this subject of evolution will go away anytime soon? Hold my beer! Check out the post as the writer merged biological and technological evolution into one. One must be damn creative to do it, no doubt.
