ALIMENTARY CANAL AND THE DIGESTION OF FOOD

in #stemng6 years ago

An alimentary canal is adapted for the breakage of food into smaller pieces, absorbing digested food and the water and also by producing digested secretion. Through alimentary canal of different animals have similar functions, they always show variation in struction according to the complexion of the animals, and the type of food the animal feed on.

The digestive system is made of alimentary canal and also the associated gland and some organ that produce enzyme that is rich in secretion which bring the present of digestion. Those enzyme and their reaction involve in the digestion of food and eventually same in all organism, from the uncellular protist such as Amoeba to a human being.

FEEDING AND DIGESTION IN MAMMALS

The solid food which most animal consume is usually large, and must be broken down into molecule in the alimentary canal before it absorbe in the bloodstream. This is done chemically and also mechanical min most mammals. In chemical digestion food is broken down into smaller pieces has a big, large surface area which is very important. For the mechanical digestion it involve the teeth which break up food into small pieces so that it will be easy to swallow. The word food is mechanically broken down when the action of the muscular walls of chums in the alimentary canal is around.

DENTITION IN HUMAN BEINGS

All mammals have their own well-developed in teeth. In most animals, if teeth are present they all serve same function which is to grasp food before it is swallow. In mammals the play a good role which serve as a mechanical digestion. Their dentition is complex.

Dentition is define as a number and also a kind of teeth present in a mammal, which their arrangement is in upper and lower jawbones.

TYPES OF TEETH

We human being are omnivorous and also their dentition is related to this mode of feeding. We all have two set of teeth through of our lifetime. At birth a baby does not have any teeth as but feed mainly on milk. The first set of teeth is know as milk teeth, grow when the is few month old and ready to feed on solid food. This teeth last only for short period. We have 20 milk teeth.

In the second set of teeth consist, there are 32 permanent teeth. These are made of four different types of teeth which are Incisor and chisel-shaped. This two are used for biting off pieces of food. The canines in human being is partially same with incisor. They are both cornical, and in carnivorous animals, have this sharp-pointed tips. The remaining two type of permanent teeth is the molar and premolars which they both have this broad surface for grinding food.

DENTAL FORMULAR

The dental formular always show the number and also types of teeth an animal has in one half of each jaw. Most mammal have different dental formulae. Upper jaw all over lower jaw is the formula for dental.
Do you know the four types of teeth is shown by its initial letter. 32 is the total number of teeth which is obtained by multiplying the total number by 2 in the dental formula.
