Your first picture looks similar to what is obtainable in the place where I grew up. At some point, it got so bad that it was almost non-motorable.

That pic is actually my area where i live in - Ori-okuta in Ikorodu, Lagos. A lot of roads are like that and the rainy season deals a big blow on them yearly. I felt really bad that people choose to do nothing about it even though they can see it expanding.
