The effect of light is the convenience it produces everyday in all aspect of our day to day activities. In the history of inventing electric bulb it was traced down to Thomas Edison in 1879 but this was not the first electric light bulb invented. In 1808 the first electric light was invented by Humphy Davy, in his invention, electricity and electric battery were experimented on the bulb.

Humphy Davy Discovery

Electric Arc lamp is the early electric bulb by Humphy Davy which was introduced. Following the connection of wires to his electric battery and a piece of carbon, and the carbon glowed with end product of great illumination(Light). In practical sense/use the light(Illumination) is too high(bright) and the light produced did not last long. On this predicament other inventors keep trying but no designs emerged for commercial application.

The early bulb by Humphy Davy as a result of improvement by other inventors led to serious search into developing incandescent lamp in October 14, 1878 by Edison Thomas. After testing several types of material for his tiny conductor, he comes out with several ways of creating carbon filament which can last for over 1200hours. In other words the incandescent lamp discovery by Thomas Edison has tiny conductor called Filament which can make the lamp lifespan between 1000 and 1200hrs illumination and this marked the beginning of commercially manufactured light bulbs which occur in year 1880.

What are Incandescent Light?

This are classic light bulb. It produces light by heating a wire filament to a temperature that results in the generation of light . The metal wire is surrounded by a translucent glass bulb that is either filled with an inert gas. Incandescent bulbs are much less efficient than most other types of electric lighting; incandescent bulbs convert less than 5% of the energy they use into visible light, with standard light bulbs averaging about 2.2%. The remaining energy is converted into heat.

Technical Working Principle of Incandescent bulb

In incandescent light, the glowing filament is obviously the most important bit of a lamp but by no means,, the only interesting part.

What are Filament?

This is a part of the light bulb that produces light and it comprises of a small thin wire two bigger wires holding it up.source

As filament is not the only interesting part when talking about incandescent bulbs, glass bulb isn't filled with Air but with Nitrogen/Argon to avoid quick burnt out bulb. In the working principle of Incandescent lamp/bulb, immediately the electric current is switch on it passes through the conductor(Filament) which will heat up and it'll grow red or white hot and give off/produces light.

Study incandescent lamp/bulb well, you will discover that the major problem it has is incredible amount of heat to make a decent amount of light and it is this same heat that burn out the gas therein which resulted to short lifespan for all incandescent lamp/bulbs(1000 - 1200hrs).

Now , Thomas Edison invention is not the first bulb invented, however he was credited with first bulb invention due to some certain fact his version was able to outstrip the earlier version. Follow closely to get out the fact.

In the actual sense, Edison was able to understand the problem the first discovery has which is the filament, that was why he came out with a thin filament with high electrical resistance which would make a lamp practical because this would require only little current to make it glow unlike the electric arc light.

Science is so Interesting because it gives you room to experiment different things and the end product may lead you to another discovery. Early 1960s Nick Holonyak an America Scientist as general Electric Company experimenting laser when he discovered accidentally Red LED light.

LED light/lamp is an electric light or light bulb for use in lighting fixtures that produces light using light emitting diodes(LEDs)
LED Light presently are considered the future of lighting and this is due to the following factors:

1. Life-span of the light is much more loner than incandescent light bulbs. Like 1200hours Incandescent to 50,000hours LEDs.

2. Lower energy with more efficiency at least 4times incandescent efficiency.

3. High initial cost and low lifetime costs(Maintenance)

Working Principle of LEDs

The major component therein are two diodes.

What are Diodes?

This is an electrical component with two electrodes (Anode&Cathode) through which electricity flows. Diode only allows electricity to flow in one direction which is from Anode to Cathode. Diodes are made from semi-conductive materials like silicon or selenium. When current passes through the semiconductor material the device emits visible light.

Technical Details to LEDs Lighting

When an LED has a voltage source connected with the positive side on the Anode and the Negative side on the Cathode, current will flow(Forward bias is the condition of the light emission). On the other hand if the Cathode with the positive side is connected and anode to negative side (the condition will be in reverse bias). It is only in forward bias light is emitted and light is being produced in LED. Reverse bias prevent currents from flowing through LED. The prevention has a cut off point which is known as Peak Inverse Voltage and at this point the LED is damage and can no loner perform it function.

In Summary, LED lights when consider the operation will use percentage less electricity than incandescent lamps, fluorescent and halogen, and with this there is cost saving in energy being used. LEDs also aim light in a specific direction unlike conventional bulbs, which emit light and heat in all directions. This directional lighting capability reduces wasted light and energy.

Today, light not only has tendency to brighten our path only it can lighten our impact on the environment, make our surroundings more secure or boost comfort and productivity of any indoor space.
