animals and human have the same mental consciousness and the capacity to feel pains; as such, killing animals is interpreted as murder in your quarters.

Actually, i also used to think on whether animals go through similar pains like humans when slaughtered.
If we define murder as intentionally taking life unlawfully, and animals and human belong to the same kingdom, it will still be termed murder in the kingdom animalia...
However, animals will not also be spared by intentionally taking plants' life, all for the sake of food...
Then, we are all murderes.

If vegetarians are calling we meat eaters murder, then we are all murders. However, that is not the case because the action of feeding is for survival. A form of natural selection process and that is why we humans stay atop the food web
