Wonderful writeup on reasons for sky rocketing maintenance cost, preventive and maintenance culture (engineering) on solar power system. Reading through your post further affirms the importance of design before construction of solar power system, proper installation, building for sustainability (having future plans for expansion) and maximizing available sun-hour. I once heard of solar modules that rotate to help trap sun rays depending on the direction of the sun, how true is this?
Yes, you are right on that but the thing is, it's not actually the modules that are following the sun across the sky but a solar tracking mechanism that direct this payload (modules) towards the direct beam of the sunlight to effectly maximize it's energy. This of course dealt with the tilting angle to which the modules are oriented.
