Steem Wars Day 5: Colorchallenge Wednesday Yellow: TeamAustralia Private @snooway submits: Australia's floral emblem (4 original photos)
The golden wattle (Acacia pycnantha) is Australia's official floral emblem (declared in 1988) and it is native to the Australian Capital Territory (Canberra). They usually flower between July and August.
According to the National Australian Botanical Gardens website, "the generic name Acacia is derived from the Greek 'akis', a point, referring to the prickly leaves of some species. The specific name pycnantha from the Greek 'pyknos', meaning 'dense', and 'anthos', meaning 'a flower', refers to the dense clusters of flowers."
National Wattle Day is celebrated on 1 September. You can find a wattle wreath on the Australian Coat of Arms.
