Steem Wars Day 2: Retro Rewind - 📺 80's TV Classics 📺 - Team GB

in #steemwars7 years ago (edited)

The 80's were a great time for British TV, during this era we created some of the finest comedies ever made, programs like Black Adder, Only Fools and Horses, and The Young Ones.

My fellow Brits probably remember TV from the 80's with mixed feelings, because along with with our usual high quality British television, we were also subjected to mindless Australian drivel like "Neighbours" and "Home and Away".

Although Australians are essentially just the offspring of evicted British criminals, and therefore should have at least a rudimentary command of the English Langauge, it's clear that at some point in history, they just started making words up...

In addition to the Aussie's offerings, we also had American TV programs to deal with. Now, to be fair, some of the stuff the Americans put out in the 80's was pretty good, the A Team and MacGyver were some of my favourite programs as a kid, but I think we all know that James Bond could anihilate them both, armed only with the olive from his Martini.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were unfortunately not up this same standard, these filthy cartilaginous critters used the non-sensical catchphrase "Cowabunga Dude". Like many Americans, they lived in the sewers and survived on a diet of takeaway Pizza.

Alf was an alien from the planet Melmac who crash landed on planet Earth and ended up being adopted by an American family. Alf's body was covered with fur, he had facial moles, eight stomachs and a wrinkled snout. It's not clear whether this was his natural appearance, or simply clever disguise intended to help him to blend in with his new family.

During the 80's, Americans were more tolerant towards aliens, and would often welcome them into their homes. Now they simply deport them, and build a large wall along the border to prevent their re-entry.

Great post dude.
And the banner looks great!

Thanks tremendospercy :)

The only reason Neighbours has lasted so long is cos the British keep watching it.

Nice! ALF!!! So many memories. I am gathering info for my own banner and more to #teamnewzealand

Some memories in there. Though I didn't really get into the young ones, blackadder etc until the 90's when I was a little older.

I love Blackadder, My favourite line is from General Melchett when he is looking at the wrong side of a map: "God, it's a barren, featureless desert out there, isn't it"

@nickdavison - What's with all the American and Australian Garbage ?? Lol I had to be VERY selective with my post !! A-Team, Knight Rider, WWF (WWE), Neighbours, Home and Away the list goes on ;-) All of which had to be conveniently forgotten about !

@stormuk69 I included them purely on the basis that they allowed me to roast our foes :)
