Paving the future

          In Alaska, especially in the Spring, Summer and Autumn, there is a lot of road work and infrastructure repair and expansion going on. The locals in Alaska only get about the first two weeks of the spring season free from construction and tourism. After that it is hurry up and wait. It does not matter what part of the state you live in, if it has a road it is getting fixed improved, or new roads being put in. It actually goes pretty smooth, without any real excessive long waits, I think the longest we had was about a half an hour or so this year, not bad really when you see as you wait about a two mile long train of cars that got to go from the other direction going by. There are a lot of cars in the summer. This piece of road will be resurfaced and nice and new next summer, and then they will work on widening and ditching another section.

          This is part of the reality in Alaska. each and every year, road work. We have some pretty harsh winters at times, and even though we do not have a whole lot of roads, the reality is we also do not have that many people and companies to take care of all the roads we do have.

          (I know it is supposed to be only one photo), This guy I am sure was very happy with all the work he got this summer. so far the winter grading has been a wash. It has snowed only once where I live, and not that much. That is a good thing, I do not like the snow that much. But here it is Nov 26th and we had one snowfall of more than an inch so far. There is no snow left on the ground right now. By the end of Feb, it will be a different story I am sure.

          Well I do not know if the SteemUSA Monday Photography Challenge will be back, but I will still try and honor the memory of it when I get a spare Monday, (like today). I know I went off the original a bit, it should have been only one picture, but soon those road behemoths will be back out on the roads moving a lot of snow.
