'Tis Pity She's a Whore: A Pop Opera - Act III, Scene v (Hippolita and Vasques Convene)
Act III, Scene v
LOCATION: The Palace Gardens again, near a statue of a cherub, naked cupid sprouting water out of many of its orifices while holding a heart-shaped bow and arrow, aimed to the sky.
Hippolita: Is he really getting married?
Vasques: The Friar arranged it so and the father acquiesced.
Hippolita: When?
Vasques: Maybe two days hence.
Hippolita: So soon?
Vasques: ‘Twas the family claim.
Hippolita: Perhaps he wishes to humiliate me in front of the whole Kingdom of Parma.
Vasques: Perhaps.
Hippolita: I will destroy that man, Vasques... you just wait and see.
Vasques: Ay ma'am, I’ve no doubt of your intent. (beat). And his behavior is downright odious and offensive, is it not?
Hippolita: Oh, ‘tis offensive indeed! Truly wicked!
Vasques: That he would make advances so easily and quickly toward another pretty face, like some kind of Don Juan or Casanova.
Hippolita: Please, Vasques.
Vasques: It’s utterly disgraceful.
Hippolita: I can’t bear it!
Vasques: I know, mistress.
Hippolita: But mark my words, he will get his in due time. (beat). Come! We shall go prepare anon for the evening's festivities. I’ve got another idea. An even better one!
Vasques: Really, mistress? Do tell.
HIPPOLITA smiles coyly and leads VASQUES toward the exit.
END SCENE.
