It is also important to take care of our atmosphere because it is a BIG help in keeping solar events under moderate control... "If you reduced earth to the size of a school globe, our atmosphere would be about as thick as a few layers of varnish." (Bill Bryson in "A short story of nearly everything")

How successful your comment and thanks for the example, at that scale we have an accurate idea of the thickness of the atmosphere, and that being tiny compared to what exists in space. We must take care of it because it is our shield of all the phenomena of space and that thanks to it we have a habitable environment on our planet.
