The Deep web is the web hidden in the internet which cannot be indexed by your normal search engine like Google, bing or yahoo, about 97% of the internet is hidden in the deep web and the rest 3% is available to us on the surface web (the normal web you can index through google), it is speculated that the deep web is about 7, 500 terabytes or 7.9 Zettabyte (the real size is not really known)and over 500 times larger than the surface web but this is speculative as it can be much larger.

If this is true, then if you have never been to the deep web, all you have been accessing on the surface web (normal web) is just 0.03% of the internet!, which means you know little about the internet.

Now that we, understand a little about the deep web

What is the Dark web?
The dark web is a small portion of the deep web that is inaccessible by standard browsers. To have access to the dark web, you need a special software.

To access the dark web you need to be able to connect to the TOR network. Sites on the dark web use the TOR Hidden Service Protocol and TOR stands for (The Onion Router), and it is an anonymous network that makes both you and the computers you are accessing over the network anonymous (unknown) as you browse the dark web. Sites on the deep web do not use your standard urls like the surface web (.com or .net or .org ) but its sites usually end with the .onion prefix and cannot be accessed by normal browsers but only TOR browsers.

Popular sites on the dark web include The Hidden Wiki which can be used to index other .onion urls and the Silk Road which is the most popular market on the dark web which anything can be bought or sold including illegal drugs, weapons and other "dark" merchandises

But this does not guarantee that you are totally anonymous, you can still be inexperienced or foolish and give up your location, and computer information on the dark web if you are careless. The dark web is full of experienced of programmers, hackers and crackers that are looking for naive newbies to exploit. There are still some measures you have to put in place when browsing the TOR network, like VPN services, taping your camera etc. (refer to my last article on privacy https://busy.org/writing/@violed25th/stuff-that-affects-us-all-you-have-been-warned)

There have been concerns about the activities to anonymity over the network, it is famous for being a platform for illicit activities like buying/selling drugs, weapons and ammunition, illegal porn, selling stolen credit card information etc. My personal view though, as one who also has access to the dark web is that, all these things are also on the surface web and it depends who the individual is. DO NOT ENGAGE IN ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES AND ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES WILL NOT FIND YOU
