How to: Not kill yourself while doing a Honey-Do list
Today my wife wanted me to switch two outlets, a USB outlet, and a normal one. Both on the same circuit/same amperage.
This is not a tutorial to tell you how to do that!
If you aren't already confident doing this, that is a very real sign that you absolutely in no way should be touching electrical GOT IT??? GOOD!!
This is for those of you that will do it anyway, and I want to make sure you don't die
Turn off the power to the circuit(s) you are working on
Make SURE they are actually turned off!!!
"How do I do that @saywha ??"
Get a volt meter nerd!
-Put your meter on VAC (Volts A/C) and do this....
What does the meter say? 0? 120? 240? .... IF IT SAYS ANYTHING BUT ZERO, YOU GOT THE WRONG CIRCUIT BUB
See that 119.9??? That means you gonna get toast if you mess with it... try again dude. See that red light of doom that lights up? That red is the same color of the electrical burns you will receive if you mess with it
OK. You retested and it says zero now right?
good
blah blah blah, take the stuff off, I told you I am not telling you how to do this. blah blah blah, read instructions
you idiotblah blah blah take pictures so you know where stuff is supposed to goand so your insurance company can deny your claim when you burn your house down
remember all I did was move one outlet to another on the same circuit, they were pre-existing. I did NOT replace it with a new one, I did NOT add a junction box, you know why? I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO THOSE THINGS. IF YOU DON'T EITHER YOU SHOULDN'T DO IT
All my wires are yellow, what do I do?
When all you have is yellow wires twist them together , Turn switch to on position when twisting , makes it easier and they will bind together
Oh cool!
ooh yea I was told that from an electric engineer from MIT you has 3 Doctorials . NASA does that as one of their backups .
Ah. 480v.
Just leave the circuit on and use big scissorsWe love your beard bro @erodedthoughts, don't do it.
Most logical answer yet!
It is on a 30amp fuse, so only 3V?
30 amp fuse keep blowing? Just put in a 60 amp fuse.... Then bypass it with wire. Itll never blow again!!!
Lol plz nobody do this...
HAHAHAHAHA
DISCLAIMER!!! WE ARE BEING STUPID
Your ground wire seems awful short . Did you extend it or just leave it off . Are they GFI Or standard looks like there in the kitchen or something . Always use GF I around water , code .
Yeah its gfi on that circuit, just not that specific outlet.
some places the code requires both . sounds redundant ,but I guess they have their reason . was just pulling your "wire" on the ground :)
Also the ground was fine lol.
lol
