Nice that you are keeping food for squirrels. I don't think they will be able to find food in any other way. In Kerala it might be better but Chennai is worst...

Yes. I have seen many squirrels and crows in my locality 10 years back. The numbers are drastically reducing every year. I hardly see only 4 or 5 in my area. They dont have enough food source and especially trees to survive.
