Hmm, intelligent question @mcsamm. Let me say when considering wind as a source to turn the turbine there is a disadvantage. Assuming the efficiency of a turbine is 50% at a wind velocity of 12meters in a second like 25mph, it simply means that the efficiency will be constant at 50% provided that the wind can maintain its constant speed but if the speed changes the efficiency, at 50% efficiency wind turbine will operate at low capacity if the speed of the wind changes and you know wind speeds can never be constant.
