Service your 2-Stroke Generator. Do it yourself. The Signs and Solutions (Part 2)

In my Last Post on how to service your 2-stroke engine (genertor) and understand the signs, I listed some part of the Generator, the Problem that might occurred on those parts and the the Solutions. As a continuation, the Part 2 is going to take a different approach.
In this Part, I'm going to be listing the Problems your 2-stroke generator might have (this can also be applied to 4-stroke), what the cause might be, what to check for and how to rectify it.
Remember...
These tasks can't be carried out Successfully by you if you DON'T have the right tools for the Job. Using the wrong tools will only do more damage than good. Some of the tools you might need are;
- The Plug spanner
- The flat/Star Screw Driver
- The 8/10/12 Spanner
- Your spray cleaner, and
- Maybe a wire brush.
Let's Begin...
Below are the problems that might occurred in this 2-stroke Generator (similar with to 4-stroke)
I. Hard Start.
Normally a sound Gen. is suppose to come ON after 1-3 drags. If it exceeds that number of drag, there is a problem somewhere. The reasons for a hard start can be;
- NO proper fuel flow from the tank to the Carburetor, this may be due to clogging in the flow line.
- Bad Spark Plug
- Dirty Carburetor
- Leakage- when there is a leak in the Engine Block area, the compression pressure reduces and combustion won't occur properly.
Solution...
- check for flow, make sure the flow is continuous without restrictions.
- Clean the clogged fuel tap and carburetor with the Spray Cleaners.
- Replace the old Spark Plug with a new one.
*Tighten every loosed bolt on the Engine Block to avoid leakage.
II. Low Voltage.
Sometimes when a Gen. produces low voltage, it's not best to just Increase the *Fire", because this might be as a result of ;
- Clogged exhaust
- Low choke ( from the Carburetor)- when a Gen. is turn ON, for it to produce the best voltage, the choke is suppose to be moves to the extreme right.
Solution.
- Clean the clogged exhaust or replace it with a new one
- Take the choke to the extreme of the Carburetor.
III. Over Heat.
This might be as a result of poor ventilation and lubrication. Overheat causes expansion of the piston, the friction between the piston and the block increases and finally Seizes. This automatically put off the Gen.
Solution
To stop overheating,
- Put on the Gen. in a well ventilated area.
- Add a proper amount of oil to the Fuel. In this 2-stroke engine, the oil is added to the fuel for lubrication.
IV. Excess Smoke emissions...
The emissions of excess smoke might be as a result of,
- EXCESS Oil in the Fuel-Oil mixture.
- Bad (over used) Piston rings- the Piston rings needs replacement from time to time.
Solution
Mix the proper amount of oil for a particular number of Litres to be used. And use a good Oil Lubricant.
Replace the old used Piston rings with new ones.
