That is a pretty cool use of the pi. Do you have any experience with water proofing the pi? I was thinking this morning to use a pi for an automised sensor based camera so that I can take some photos of the birds at the feederbox :o)

I have put it in a metal and plastic case. It was not 100% waterproof. Will you use the Raspi camera or a third-party USB one? I would say that every case that you seal up could be work. Maybe you have to check the temperature inside. I would also put a small packet silica gel or some rice inside to absorb the humidity.

Maybe the plastic is clear enough to get a good image quality or if not, the lens could look through a hole.
