Interesting, I had heard of this method, but I really did not understand what was the way it worked, I see that implementing this type of dynamics has a logic a little beyond what in the first instance could transmit to an observer not understood in practice, like me.
I could ask you what the color of the pieces on the board means? each one has a constant meaning, or does it change according to each person and their interpretation?
How about placing yourself on this board and imagining then to take figures of your own family system and decide where you want to put them. How far would you place your mother and father? And what kind of color would you use for them?
The color has a particular meaning for the participant if he gives meaning to it. Mostly, that is the case. We all have associations with colors and also with shapes. So yes, it differs from client to client. It is not the consultant who gives meaning but the client. I as a counsellor give support in interpreting the setting when all is done by the client himself. I start to ask questions about the figures, the amount of them, the spaces between them and if all figures who play a role are on the board.
In contrast to conversation, the dynamics and significance of a family system can be determined much more quickly when working with visual and symbolic means.
A done board can be used for a momentary snapshot as well as placing the figures for a future desire and how one wants his system to take place.
I understand. I think it is an excellent way to approach the client, I imagine that you get good results when you use this dynamic.

Yes, results are much better and anchor themselves in a different way. You'll never forget having set a board. While remembering a dialogue is much harder when you weren't hit by an aha-experience:)
