Calculus lesson 11 - Product rule

In this lesson you learn how to use the product rule to differentiate equations in the form of y = f * g. (the product of 2 functions, f and g). An example question would be: Differentiate y=(x+3) * (x-2). You might think that you could do this question without the product rule, because you can simply expand out the brackets and then differentiate. However, if I give you a harder question: y=(x+3)^3 * (x-2)^4, it would be way too much work to expand it out before differentiating, which is where the product rule becomes useful.

You will see that in all of my lessons you will be shown step by step instructions on how to do plenty of examples, and also get a chance to practice on your own before being shown the steps to get to the correct answer.

Make sure you have already mastered the Chain Rule before doing this tutorial, otherwise you will find it difficult to differentiate each of the functions in the product.
