What is Biotechnology?

It is the application and use of technological sciences and engineering in order to help treat organic and inorganic components. Biotechnology can also be defined as a science that uses biological components or their derivatives to manufacture or modify products or processes.

What does biotechnology offer us?

Biotechnology offers us many things and we have many positive applications, however there are many negative applications such as the manufacture of weapons or explosives with biological components.

The applications of biotechnology are the following:

Red Biotechnology: Red biotechnology is one that is applied in medicine and all its medical processes.
White Biotechnology: Is that used for industrial aspects in the manufacture of chemical products.
Green Biotechnology: This type of biotechnology is used for agricultural processes.
Blue Biotechnology: This type of biotechnology also called "Marine Biotechnology". It is the application of biotechnology in marine environments.
Gray Biotechnology: This type of biotechnology also called "Environmental Biotechnology" is used for the maintenance of the environment.
Biotechnology Orange: This type of biotechnology is used for education in this area. Red biotechnology, A clear example of this type of biotechnology is the acquisition of new drugs, such as antibiotic vaccines, etc.

White BiotechnologyWhite Biotechnology, an example of this branch of biotechnology is the use of enzymes or catalysts, for the manufacture of chemical products. Green Biotechnology, this type of biotechnology is a serious example that is capable of creating plants in unfavorable environments. Biotechnology Blue, does not have many functions but one example would be the care of marine areas. Gray Biotechnology, this branch of biotechnology has many benefits such as the preservation of species, which is very important. Biotechnology orange, with this type of biotechnology has the purpose of encouraging scientists and people with high capacity for biotechnology.

Biotechnology and Health Biotechnology

is one of the best things that has happened to medicine, since it has many advantages, such as the creation of antibiotic vaccines or drugs, however it has some disadvantages, such as the production of toxins or the transfer of allergenic compounds from some spice transferred to another, this can lead to future unforeseen allergies.

However, Biotechnology brings many good things such as improvement in nutrition since it can introduce more vitamins into food and reduce allergens and toxins.

Biotechnology and the environment

Reduction of pesticides will no longer be a problem because with each modification of a GMO (genetically modified organism) can resist a certain pest, this makes pesticides and chemicals like this stop being used.

Although there is also the possibility that the large use of genetically altered crops can cause toxin and insecticides which can cause damage to the environment.
