To know something about Natural Rubber.
Natural rubber, also called India rubber or caoutchouc is a coherent elastic solid obtained from latex of a number of tropical trees of which Havea brasiliensis is the important most. It is consists of polymers of the organic compound isoprene with minor impurities of other organic compounds, plus water.
The latex is a white coloured, sticky colloid drawn off by making incisions in the bark and collecting the fluid in a vessels in a process called "tapping".
(*Dropadi of rubber falling in the bowl, the process called tapping *)
We know that rubber is used for a variety of purpose from erasing pencil marks to manufacturing of tyres, tubes and a large number of Industrial products.
Conditions of growth.
Rubber tree is a quick growing tall tree acquiring 20-30 metre height. It begins to yield latex in 5-7 years after plantation. It requires hot and humid climate with temperature of 25-30 ℃ and annual rainfall of over 200 cm.
Dry spells and low temperatures are harmful. Daily rainfall followed by strong sunshine is very useful. Deep well drained loamy soils on the hill slopes at elevation ranging from 300 to 450 metres above the sea level provides best conditions for its growth. No rubber plantations are found above 700 metres elevation.
Production and distribution.
Though natural rubber is native to South America, according to a data, Asia was the main source of natural rubber, accounting for about 94% of output in 2005. The largest rubber producing countries are Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and India.
