6 fascinating objects in the Orion Nebula

in #steemstem6 years ago (edited)

The Orion Nebula probably know everyone. Each of us has seen amazing photos taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. Scientists analyzing the images discovered unusual objects  in this nebula. Careful analysis allowed to conclude that they are forming a solar systems. You could say that this is a picture of an unborn baby. These are protoplanetary disks calld Proplyd.

Nebulae are clouds of gases and dust. Under gravity, particles are attracted to each other to form a star. The dust and gas surrounding the star creates a disc. This discs was discovered in the pictures of the Orion Nebula.

The Orion Nebula is 1,400 light years away from us. Therefore, the photos show what happened 1,400 years ago. It is important to know that the nebulae are not 2 dimensional objects.

Thanks to modern imaging techniques, scientists and technicians have created an amazing film. In the video we can see the Orion Nebula in 3D. Pay attention to the protoplanetary disks. That's how our solar system looked before it was born. These images show how small we are in the whole cosmos.
