Andromeda "The closest galaxy to Earth" Know its history and structure. here we explain

in #steemstem7 years ago

Hello stemians, the Andromeda galaxy (or M31) is the closest massive galaxy, and is an excellent laboratory to study the characteristics and history of large spiral galaxies such as our galaxy, the Milky Way. It is amazing how the human being has developed his capacity for visualization and astronomical study. Who imagined a galaxy that could be seen with the naked eye? It is wonderful to study the stars and our solar system "interstellar space"

Andromeda is a spiral galaxy with a diameter of two hundred and twenty thousand light years (as far as its galactic halo is concerned) and about one hundred and fifty thousand light years between the ends of its arms. It contains approximately a number of stars similar to our own galaxy. It is the object visible to the farthest eye of the Earth (although some claim to be able to see with the naked eye the galaxy of the Triangle, which is a little further)

Milky Way

It has been observed that Andromeda and the Milky Way are rapidly approaching each other with speeds of about 500,000 km / hour. This means that there would be a collision between the two within about 3,000 million years. If it occurs, such a shock should not be understood as taking place between two solid bodies, but rather that the galaxies would cross each other. As a result, some of the material from both would disperse and the rest would form a giant elliptical galaxy.

Study and History of the andromeda galaxy

the first reference to the Andromeda Galaxy comes from the year 964 and was made by the Persian astronomer known as Azophi, when in his libo of the Fixed Stars, he made a detailed description of a small cloud that was located in the Andromeda Constellation .

The first observation with a telescope made to the galaxy took place in 1612 and was done by Simon Marius. During the year of 1864, the famous astrologer William Huggins took his time to observe the spectrum and managed to visualize that it looked like an object made from stars, reason why he came to the conclusion that the M31 was formed in its totality by stars . Despite this statement, it continued to be considered a nebula for many years to come. In the year 1917, Heber Curtis, managed to discover a nova in the Andromeda, and investigating with photos the years before this, managed to realize that there was more. In 1940 Grote Reber was able to detect some radio emissions coming from the Andromeda and it was later discovered that the galaxy could emit radio waves in the 158.8 MHz band, and that is how the galaxy was cataloged as the first to achieve emit different radio waves.

Location of the Andromeda Galaxy

The Andromeda galaxy is an object that can reach a simple point of view, although it is available at 2.5 million light years, with a direction pointing towards the Andromeda constellation. To be able to locate it with the greatest ease, we must find the square of Pegasus, and from there it will be easier to locate it.

It can be seen from the earth with an aspect of oval elongated, small and with very diffuse peripheries, at the same time provided with a lot of light.

Structure of the Andromeda Galaxy

The Andromeda galaxy has a double structure, it also has two hot nuclear points that are separated by a few light years. Some observations have noted that the nuclei they possess can move with respect to each other and that these nuclei have been decomposing over the years.

Some research indicates that galaxies have a bar in the center so it can be said to be equal to the Milky Way. Astrologers have discovered that the brightness of stars that extends outward is part of the galaxy's disk. It is said, according to studies that the galaxy is transforming into a ringed galaxy, in which gas and dust are distributed in the rings located around the center. Andromeda is loaded with neutral hydrogen so that the formation of the stars is continuous and effective. It has a large number of satellite galaxies, and many of them are in the same plane.

Observation of the Andromeda Galaxy from Earth

Andromeda, is a galaxy very easy to observe from the earth when the sky is under total darkness. If we look for some places far from cities and light pollution we will be able to see it. It seems from a distance like something small, the truth is that it is so big, that it can be seen by the human eye on earth.

A psychic once told me that I was from Andromeda. Imagine that! Is winter the best time to locate the great square of Pegasus from N. America? I never knew the location of Andromeda in the night sky, thank you for posting this

wow is very interesting, I would like to know a psychic so that I can talk more about andromeda. is incredible! I'm very happy that you liked the publication. I really enjoy preparing it, I hope you can observe this wonderful event soon. Greeting! @gggreenhouse

Her name was Marian Starnes, she owned the Terra nova center. She was in her 80's when I visited her. Unfortunately she passed away in 2016.
