Yea, it is common here in Nigeria. During electrical maintenance in one big building, I observed that the Electrician wired the whole downstairs with a single looping. No switch box, no fuse. Just master switch.

You can only hope that nothing ever goes wrong with such a setup :)
For safety reasons, I have already told the owner of the house to opt for a standard wiring
I hope he listens.
