Physics and Mathematics
Mathematics is an important tool to express the physical ideas in expressions, equations and numbers. The physical reality can be expressed in paper with the help of it. It is known as mathematical modeling. Mathematics is based on certain axioms and they can be used to prove theorems using different logic. Mathematics helps physics but it is not just meant for it. Mathematics has its own existence, realm. Actually, pure mathematicians feel proud to be useless. so what is the motive for mathematicians? According to one of the famous pure mathematicians GH Hardy, intellectual curiosity i.e. desire to know truth is first motive for any pure mathematicians.
Let it be complex numbers or number theory, physics has always taken help of mathematics for simplicity. But, There were times when the real problems helped in the development important parts of mathematics. The physics to find the motion of celestial bodies lead to development of part of mathematics called calculus. Calculus includes differentiation and integration which we profoundly use in different sectors.
Mathematicians deal with abstract ideas where as physicists deal with real world problems. Mathematicians love generalization where as physicists love specification. E.g. Mathematicians consider n dimension whereas physicists try to consider a specific dimension i.e. 3 dimension which is just special case of n-dimensional problem when n=3. When mathematician do problem they consider general force F. They don't care which force it is. Physicists throughout the problem know either this force is gravity, electrostatic or other.
Welcome to Steemit. Good post, very well written.
thank you sir
I never thought of this before. I always thought that mathematics was a precise science. But you state that mathematicians love generalization and physicist love specification. Now that I see your point of view. I can agree and math is not (exactly) a precise science. But some times you have to step back from the problem to understand the problem. Note: at one point in time I was a math major. Good post.
Thank you sir
