Amazing & Weird Exoplanets #1

in #steemstem7 years ago

While technology keeps advancing so does our urge to discover what's out there in the universe. The primarily goal for both scientists and us is to find new planets to go and live with similar climate and water as well as other forms of life so everyone is paying attention to that.

Well you shouldn't!

There are a bunch of amazing and weird planets out there that have been discovered years ago and none gives a damn about them. I will make a sort series of posts with 2-3 weird-amazing planets-exoplanets as i wanna show you all how fascinating the universe is and how many things we don't know. If you take it a step further and deeper you can imagine how little do we know and that the universe is so vast that everything is possible.

Just for the fun of it along with their original names i will provide a nickname of my own choice!

 Kelt-9b (Hotty)

You might don't want to visit this one, heck don't even stay near him, as this Gas planet (as it is considered by NASA)  is the hottest exoplanet ever found with his discovery being this year at 2017. If you think Jupiter is big haha you might want to rethink that as Hotty is almost 3 times Jupiter (2.88) to be exact.

This planet is quite close with his star named Kelt-9 (i guess they don't like naming that much) a star that is twice as hot as our sun and because of that the surface of Kelt-9b is simillar to our sun with aproximately 4.300 degrees Celsius. In other words we don't stand a chance.

The good thing is that it's far away from us, about 650 light years away and because of the extreme temperature it basically get destroyed little by little so sooner or later the star will be lonely!

Another example of fail naming, Coldy is the exact opposite of Hotty. Now i have good and bad news about this planet. I will start with the good news and end up bring misery once again!

The good news is that this planet is about the same size of Earth and about the same distance from it's star as what's happening with Earth and Sun. Moreover, as  you  may have guessed or by watching the video this planet is full of ice and the scientists believe it's full of drinkable water. Finally, this exoplanet discovered at 2017 like his bro Hotty with a technique called Microlensing in which you use background stars as flashlights (pretty cool ha?)

The bad news is that the temperature is -220 to -186 degrees Celsius so once again we die and the reason behind it even though as i mentioned we got the same distance between stars is because Coldy's star is like 7.8% of our sun.... The saddest part is that Coldy is about 13000 light years far so pretty much with our technology ''not more drinkable water for us''

Kepler-16b (Tatooine)

The nickname couldn't be anything less than this and it wasn't my idea either. That nickname is even mentioned at the NASA's site :P . The star wars fans by now, know what i am talking about, if not let me give you a hint (Luke's Skywalker Home Planet) . It have been discover way back at 2011 and it's the first exoplanet with 2 starts and ofc 2 sunsets.

This exoplanet is considered as the others as a gas planet, is way bigger than Earth but because it has some distance between the suns which by the way are cooler than our sun Kepler-16b ends up being a cold planet (not like Coldy nobody wins him) and as a result don't expect any life there. The distance between us is 200 light years. It may have not life as i mentioned or anything else but Star Wars proved once again way ahead of it's time!

So that's all for today. I hope you find it intresting and let me know in the comments if you knew about any of these exoplanets and your thoughts about those mentioned. See you all soon!

@filotasriza3 What an interesting post :-) Loved it

thanks a lot i really appreciate it!

Event Horizon was one of my favorite movies,
how you can bend spacetime and virtually go anywhere.
Out of all places in the universe the movie chose hell.

i haven't watch that movie yet but it seems quite interesting

haha it's interesting but it's a very old horror movie and really has nothing much to do with science. i meant it to be more of a joke. i'm a bigger fan of something like neil degrasse tyson speeches :)

ahh i really like neil. I have watched way too much videos with him. the fun part is that he is so clever and has such an experience debating and being on TV that nobody stand a chance against him! ( i hope you don't mean that as a joke too :P )

no not at all :)
i absolutely like the way he makes science interesting

Μήπως τελικά πρέπει να αλλάξουμε πλανήτη και όχι χωρά??? χαχαχαχαχα

kalitera 8a perasoume :P

Nice post, I wonder when they will name a planet after Nebu?

haha when they run out of names :P and if they keep naming kepler + numbers then not soon :P

When it comes to living, there is no place like home.

haha true! except if we run out of everything :P

True. Or, make too much of something.
