Matrioshka brain: A mega computer encompassing an entire star

in #steemstem7 years ago

Imagine a computer the size of a solar system, A computer of enormous computational capacity. A machine employing the entire energy output of a star to drive computer operations.it would use a Dyson sphere an energy-collecting sphere that surrounds the star to collect almost all of its power making it an ultra-powerful computer processor. Once the sphere had collected all the energy it needed, it would pass the excess to another larger Dyson-sphere processor that completely surrounded the first, repeating the process until all of the star's energy was being used. This concept derives its name from the nesting Russian Matryoshka dolls.

The concept was deployed by Robert Bradbury, in 'the anthology Year Million: Science at the Far Edge of Knowledge' and drew interest from analysts and reviewers from all over the world including 'the Los Angeles Times' and 'the Wall Street Journal'.

As you may have guessed, surrounding a star with gigantic Dyson spheres would make life very hard and nearly impossible. Well, it's a possible use for it: this 'majestic' Matrioshka brain would be so powerful that an advanced species could upload their entire consciousness and knowledge into it and live within a simulation (an alternate universe simulated by the computer). If a species managed to achieve that, They will become almost 'immortal' The species itself could fade and die, its planet could be destroyed, however, the civilization would still live on in a stimulation of the world they left behind. In fact, many people, believe that we're living in a simulation like that at this very moment, Providing one answer to the Fermi Paradox.

The Fermi Paradox could be explained in this simple 'question' -why we haven't encountered aliens despite the likelihood that they're out there. It's possible that a civilization advanced enough to find us has already decided to abandon their reality completely and upload themselves (their consciousness) to a Matrioshka brain.

What do you think?
