Hand Hygiene: How to Wash Your Hands Like A Doctor
In the last decades, the number of medical procedures has increased significantly. The result is a better medical care and a longer lifespan, unfortunately, this also means more iatrogenic accidents. An iatrogenic accident refers to an undesirable effect of a medical procedure, generally an infection.
To minimize these accidents, we need to strictly follow certain rules. In fact, hands are responsible for most viral and microbial infections spread, so learning to wash our hand correctly is super important especially in epidemic times, medical centers, when you are sick or when you have someone sick nearby.
Step 1: Start by taking off any accessories eg: watch, ring, bracelets etc...
Step 2: Use a hand soap or a hand antiseptic.
Step 3: Rub your palms against each other.
Step 4: Rub the back of each hand against the palm of the other hand and make sure to focus on interdigital spaces as shown below.
Step 5: Close one fist and rub it against the palm of your other hand, do it for both hands
Step 6: Rub each thumb gently
Step 7: Rub the tips of your fingers against the palm of the other hand, do it for both hands and if your nails are long, make sure to rim them first.
Step 8: Rub each wrist and then wash your hand
I've made a small video to recapitulate the whole process in case you're still missing anything
I hope this technique was helpful, make sure to learn it, use it every time you are sick or you have contact with a sick person and share it with your friends and family.
