RE: Trehalose, a common food additive, may have fueled worldwide Clostridium difficile outbreaks

in #steemstem7 years ago

I enjoyed this post because of it's scientific analysis of both Trehalose and C.df. Firstly I am a Pharmaceutical Microbiologist with interest in antibiotics and drug resistant bacteria and not a food safety expert. What I am going to say is this, you have highlighted the fact I and strongly agree with you . Meanwhile we cannot stop this from happening because it is going to be difficult to convince companies from adding the sugar to their products because they are out to make profit unless they have a better option. however, one way to correct this is by providing an alternative solution such as finding a way to include engineered probiotics that will competitively inhibit C.df in their products. These probiotics will stop the pathogen and also confer immunity on the consumer. These companies will save lots of people by doing this and this is a call for us researchers to look at it from that angle
