Using Steemit with Students - Have you used it in your teaching?
I have been thinking about getting students to make weekly Steemit posts about what they learned that week in their Practice of Science (Statistics topic) classes, probably with a steemstem tag and also a class related tag (so I can find them). They are 2nd year university/college students and it would be an optional task.
Are there any lecturers/teachers out there who have either tried something like this on Steemit or have been thinking about it (and maybe decided not to)? I am trying to get a feel for whether this would be:
- Useful
- Appropriate
Do you think there could be any ethical issues (say perception of me profiting somehow) or other issues? I am always conscious of using a non-university platform since it makes it harder to enforce university rules, but it would an optional task so students wouldn't have to join if they didn't want to.

Also the potential of them stumbling across nsfw content (yes they are adults but that would still probably lead to complaints).
Just a little concerned about perception of conflict of interest or profiting from posts, so am interested to see what people say.
You are right - on both points. Could be perceived as a conflict of interest. And most uni's are not that keen on exposing their students to nsfw content (ironically).
It's an interesting idea. I'm not sure how to work it though. You could google using steemit in the classroom because i feel like others on here have tried to use steemit with their students in the past but I'm blanking on who it was.
Does steemit still put people on a waiting list when they want to join? I remember signing my husband up for an account and being put on a waiting list that lasted months. If the waiting list is an issue that means you may have problems getting your students signed up.
Apparently a forthcoming update might help with the waitlist issue. If it doesn't that could definitely be an issue.
