ROBOTS MIGHT TAKE OVER THE WORLD

in #steemstem6 years ago (edited)

The topic might sound awful I know, but, I was careful in choosing "might" over "will". Every vital things humans do, robots now do them, if not better. They are quicker, faster and more productive. Competing with them is of no use.

Am I right to say we depend on them? OK, that didn't come out well. Let's talk about robots, shall we?

What are Robots?

Robots are programmed machines that carry out series of tasks automatically. These machines can be controlled either within or with an external device.

I know what you are thinking. Humans built this, they can be turned on and off and controlled at anytime, then, how on earth would they take over the world? Yes, you are right! Robotics engineers are responsible for the creation of robots, they decide what these things does.

But, I would like you to see things in my views. Robots do things humans can't do and they are in every sector. I meant the word "every".

Let's take a look at some of this sectors.

ROBOTS IN AGRICULTURE

Gone are those days when farmers had to cultivate and harvest themselves. It was too tedious and thus, less farm produce are generated. Technology has span across this sector and had made everything easy. Very soon, a farmer wouldn't need to visit the farm
He could watch from afar and see everything work itself out. What is or what will be responsible for carrying out all this? Robots definitely!

Robots doesn't necessarily mean a human-form creature, any machine created to carry out specific task is a robot. There's no regard to how it looks.

The agricultural sector now have harvesting robots, driverless tractors and sprayers, sprayer drones. There are robots designed to find and destroy weeds, some of these robots calculates the expected yield of farm produce.

Now, what is left for humans? Everything is made available by these robots, I guess all we have to do now is consume those goods. I'm not implying we are lazy, we designed them right?

News flash: they've taken over agriculture.

ROBOTS IN HEALTH

Health is wealth they say. Trusting a robot to treat and make you fine would be difficult, that's why some if these robots haven't been accepted till date. But, some are widely used noe. Humans would go extreme in doing what they can do and very soon lesser people would be employed in the working force. Yes! Robots are taken over.

They don't need to sleep, eat or rest, they are readily available 24/7. Humans are still limited to what they can do and thus, science found a way to solve all this.

Have you heard of the Origami robot? This robot is small in size, it is in form of a capsule and you are meant to swallow it. When it gets to the stomach, the capsule dissolves and it is controlled by a technician to patch up wounds or remove strange items in the stomach. With this, you don't need a surgery.

There are Robotic Exoskeletons - Robots that enables paralyzed people to walk, rehabilitates stoke or spinal cord injury patients. These are seen in movies mostly, but, it exists.

Another robot was created to solve surgical problems. You should check out dsVinci. It's the perfect machine for surgeries.

How about disinfectant robots, Pharmabiotics (It assists pharmacists) and companion robots? These robots are widely available in the health sector and has been functioning since. What more does the health sector need? I guess none.

ROBOTS IN MANUFACTURING INDUSTRIES

I'm classifying the production of phones, laptops, cars, house appliances like chairs, tables, utensils and other technological related equipments that are manufactured for human use here.

These products don't just assemble themselves you know. Something or someone does that. How your car came into place isn't a mystery, every part of that car is being programmed and assembled to make a whole. Humans assemble this before before, but, as you know, it's too tedious. Welcome to the world where robots are used.

Automotive robots are responsible for assembling, screw driving, labelling, fixing of engines and any other thing you can think of. Same thing applies to phones, laptops and other products. There are special robots that does the assembling. All humans need to do is monitor and place the parts where it should be, the robots gets to work immediately.

They've taken over, they do everything.

What other aspect of life haven't I mentioned? Oh! Sex?

SEX ROBOTS

Of course it should be talked about too. Robots can only do our tedious work, they can't do what a fellow man would do. That's what we thought. News flash; there are sex robots too.

Although, this is no news anymore, it's all over the world. Sex robots are created to solve sexual urges. There's a male and a female own.

Sex dolls have existed since 1968, these dolls were inflatable with air and were subject to deterioration. Nobody could use then again. Earlier this year, a more advanced sex robots has been created. It hasn't been released fully out yet as there's still conspiracy over the product.

It can converse with you, it's made of silicon and it's said to have the feel of human. That's what technology has turned into. Robots now do everything.

Now, that isn't all. There's one more thing we should look at.

ROBOTIC ANIMALS

Lots of animals are going extinct. That dog and cat you love might go and come back no more. Okay, this isn't farfetched, their population and love for them wouldn't make them extinct. But, robotic engineers are now creating animal-loke robots. This robots looks and acts like them.

The Bionicants created by Festo is an exact replica of an ant. It has highly integrated system to solve a common task. This ants has good decision making. Imagine a world where you had to communicate with ants and other animals. Robotic ones though.

About conversation, you can have your own robotic pet now. This pets are either built in the form of a cat, dog or other domestic animals. Instead of treating them as pets, humans uses them for domestic chores. Well, they can do tedious jobs.

CONCLUSION

This technologies aren't built to wipe off the human race, they are meant to help us. Yes, we are becoming lazy in terms of strength, but, the brain is getting stronger.

Robots are now in every sector, sooner, we will live with them, eat and dine with them. That wouldn't be a bad idea though. But, just so you know, they've taken over. Technology has done well, I believe we can have a rest, let them work.

We can't avoid it but we can delay the process for at least 50yrs or so. The singularity is here, within a few years consumer robots like Honda's ASIMO will be affordable. There sre schools like the Singularity School who's core purpose is to keep AI in check.

Delay the process? Hmmmnn, I thought we all want it faster?
I just checked the singularity school, that's another good innovation.

Sorry, I for one do not want the robots taking over anytime soon. I'm sure many feel the same. With autonomy and intelligence comes choice. There's a strong chance they will replace us as the dominant beings on Earth.

Well, I don't want it too, but, with the likes of things, they are taken over.

I don't think robots can be dangerous for us. What can be dangerous is the AI that controls the robots.

We will have big changes thanks to the constant technological innovation there is, and robots will become more and popular and take a bigger influence over the general economy.

Technology always ends up making our life easier, and I believe that trend will continue. Robots, and eventually AI, will make our lives better and easier.

Cheers!

Of course it will make our life better and easier. There's always a side effect to everything easy don't you think?

There's always a side effect to everything easy

I agree, but that doesn't change the fact that having improved technology will help us in the end.

The internet has many side effects and it is one of the most useful tools that have ever existed.

The problem is: what will happen with us when AI will get out of our control... Machines don't have feelings and are more deadly weapons than we can imagine... It is very risky to think that we can control something we don't understand very well... Today's cyber-friend can be your tomorrow's cyber-enemy... I'm not against using technology to help people but we need to reasonable in it like in spending money or falling in love. All of it done in bad way can harm us...or worse...

By being reasonable with it, you mean?

These machines has eaten deep into our bloodstreams, we honestly can't do with them anymore. Imagine a word without AI and robots. Everybody needs to go back to the conventional ways of working.

I'm sure they understands this machines well enough though and you are right, it loses control sometimes. We've seen cases were robots kills human mistakenly.

Sex robot, this is another range of been advance...

You bet it is.

higher you bro......very educative and informative

Take over

I disagree -- on these end, we still working -- smiles

Excellent post! You covered the subject nicely, and presented some interesting material here. I have seen some of those robotic animals on documentary programs where animal behavior is being studied, and it is fascinating how they work!

Jeez! Robots are actually everywhere. From the life saving (healthcare) robots, to our agricultural sector. And now, sex is not spared too as we have Sex dolls.
Robots are really taking over!
