Pitcher Showdown

For the Minnesota Twins, the rookie, Adalberto Mejia will take the mound. This is technically considered his rookie season because last year, he only pitched in one game. Through 5 games pitched, Meija is 1-1 with a 4.64 ERA and he's tossed only 19 strikeouts. In every single game he's pitched in this year, he has gave up at least one run and at least two walks. And, believe it or not, Mejia was drafted as a relief pitcher. But, the Twins found him a spot in the starting rotation so he must adapt to it now.
The former Twin will take the mound for the Angels tonight, that former Twin is Alex Meyer. Meyer, who started his career in 2015 with the Twins only played 4 games for them through 2016. Half way through 2016, he was traded to the Angels and with his time on the Angels, he has pitched a total of 10 games, 5 of those games came from this season. Through 5 games, he is 2-2, with a 5.79 ERA and he's threw 28 strikeouts! He is currently riding a one game losing streak, but, he has thrown 7 strikeouts through his last 3 games! Also, keep in mind, this pitcher was drafted will high hopes, he was drafted in the first round, pick 23.

Minnesota Twins

Minnesota will open up a long road trip against teams on the West Coast, the first team on their map is in Los Angeles, against the Angels. The Twins, 26-23, are the American League Central Division leaders at the moment! The team lead by the star, Miguel Sano, has had a great start to the season this year. The Twins haven't been to the playoffs in over 6 years! And, believe it or not, they only have one player still playing for them from the 2010 team, that is the veteran, Joe Mauer.
Even though the Twins may be the division leaders, they are not leading the league in any stats. The best stat the Twins have is OBP%, they are 6th in the league in that category. Surprisingly, the old man, Joe Mauer, has been very hot lately, he is having the best season since 2013 with his current stats. Also, Brian Dozier, the Twins second baseman has had two home runs in his past 5 games, so he is heating up! This Twins team is pretty superb this year and I could see them in the playoffs if they keep playing ball like they have ben!

Los Angeles Angels

The Angels had a clutch game last night, the game was tied 1-1 leading into the bottom of the 8th inning, the veteran, Eric Young Jr., who has only played in 3 games this season hit a solo blast to give them the lead 2-1, and that gave them the big W! The Angels, 28-28, are currently in second place in the American League West, but, they are 11 games behind the Astros, who are in first place. Like the Twins, the Angels do not lead the league in any stats, but, the best stat they have is a pitching stat, they are ranked 8th in league for batting average against.
Tonight, the long time MLB star, Albert Pujols will try to hit his 600th home run, it will be a very big milestone. He is currently ranked number 9 in the league, all-time, for home runs hit. He is only 10 away from surpassing Sammy Sosa, who is in 8th place! Also, since September 3rd, 2011, the Angels have absolutely dominated the Twins while playing at home as they have won 13 games and only lost 4! Fun fact: With the Angels 2-1 victory over the Braves last night, that represented their 20th comeback this season!
