Pitcher Showdown

Pitching for the Red, White & Blue will be the all-star pitcher, Drew Pomeranz! Pomeranz, the former first round, 5th pick of the MLB draft, did not begin his career in Boston, but rather in the worst pitchers park in the MLB, Colorado. Pomeranz did not have to wait long to hear his name called to be brought up to the big leagues, waiting less than a year. But, in that first year, 2011, he only played in 4 games so it did not technically count as his "rookie year". His actual rookie year was the following year, in 2012, while he still had a Rockies Jersey on.
In that 2012 season, Pomeranz, then 22/23 years old, had a horrible season. Through 22 games, he only won 2 while losing 9, he pitched a total of 96.2 innings, and he had a horrendous ERA at a 4.93. But, keep in mind, their are very few pitchers who do good in this Colorado ballpark. So, after his poor Colorado career, he was sent off to Oakland, where he spent two years of his career capturing 10 win and 10 losses through those 2 years. Then, the next year, he was, once again, shipped off to San Diego where he pitched his best season.
In San Diego, he was an All Star pitcher, which means he was elected into the All Star Game. He pitched 17 games and he had a total of 8 wins and 7 defeats, and he had a stellar ERA at 2.47. Sadly, he only played on San Diego for half a year, before, once again, being shipped off to the team he currently plays for, the Boston Red Sox. This season, Pomeranz has pitched 10 games, he has won 5 and lost only 3, he's thrown 65 strikeouts thus far, and his ERA is, by no means the best, at 4.24.
Taking the mound for the Yankees will be the K master, Masahiro Tanaka. Tanaka, the import from Japan, has had a fantastic, couldn't ask for better from an import, MLB career. He has pitched for the Yankees since being imported in 2014 and he has had a phenomenal record over the course of four years, through these four years, he has pitched in 86 games, he has totaled 34 wins and only 21 defeats and at the end of each season, he's thrown over 130 strikeouts. This season, has actually been his worst year in his career.
Through 11 games, Tanaka has split his wins/loses at 5-5, he has one of the highest ERA's in the league at 6.34, and he's only thrown 56 strikeouts. He has only really had one good performance this year and that was on May 26th when he played Oakland and threw 13 strikeouts while only giving up one run. It was a very special outing for him, but, in his next game, he went back to the old way he's been playing this year, giving up 7 ER and 9 hits through 5.2 innings.

Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox, 31-25, currently are in second place, right behind the Yankees, trailing them by 2 games, in the AL East division. As of lately, the Red Sox bats have been on fire. On Sunday, in their last game, Andrew Benintendi hit two home runs and got 3 RBI's! But, statistically, the Red Sox have been one of the worst hitting teams this year. They are the 29th worst in the league in home runs hit, 19th in the league in slugging %, 11th in the league in runs scored, and their best stat comes in batting average, where they place third in the league.
Tonight, the Red Sox will face the Yankees in one of the oldest rivalries in the league. If the Boston bats come ready to hit the ball, like they have been doing the past week, very good, then, they should be able to take this game... but, if the bats do not come ready to hit the ball, they will get demolished by the Yankees.

New York Yankees

The Yankees, 32-22, currently the AL East division leaders will come into this match looking to extend their lead in their division. The Yankees have been one of the hottest teams this whole year. Aaron Judge, the rookie powerhouse, has been an absolute monster this year! He is batting .324, he has 18 HR'S and 41 RBI's, not even midway through the season. And, it only gets better, believe it or not, the Yankees have four batters hitting over .400 and they have five batters that have over 8 HR's.
New York recently split a four game series in Toronto over the weekend, and on their 7 game road trip, they finished 3-4. On Sunday, the Yankees lost to Toronto, but, Matt Holiday drove in both of the Yankees Runs as they were defeated, 3-2. All time, the Yankees have had more wins than Boston in this old rivalry, beating them 1,185 times and losing 996. Will the Yankees add on to that total tonight or will Boston give them a defeat? Only time will tell!
