Lewis Hamilton took a dominant victory at Silverstone to equal the all-time record of five career wins at the British Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver equalled the tally of the Scot Jim Clark and Frenchman Alain Prost with his fourth home win in a row. Here is how it all went down...

First Practice

Valterri Bottas set the pace as Mercedes dominated first practice at the British Grand Prix. The Finn, who won the Austrian Grand Prix, was 0.078 seconds quicker than teammate Lewis Hamilton, as the two swapped fastest times throughout the session.
Sebastian Vettel was sixth quickest, 1.411 seconds off the pace after suffering a big spin and a trip. Max Verstappen was third fastest, with Kimi Raikkonen the fastest Ferrari in fifth.

Second Practice

Valterri Bottas led Lewis Hamilton to a Mercedes one-two in second practice. Bottas was quickest by just 0.047 seconds. Ferrari’s Raikkonen was third, 0.323 seconds behind Bottas, 0.128 seconds ahead of teammate Sebastian Vettel.

Third Practice

Hamilton was fastest in a rain-hit third practice session. Mercedes and Ferrari remained neck and neck throughout the session, with Sebastian Vettel finishing second and Bottas third. Raikkonen was fourth, while Nico Hulkenberg kept hid surprising act up as he finished fifth.

Qualifying

Lewis Hamilton matched Jim Clark’s record of five British Grand Prix pole positions on Saturday, after beating Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen by half a second in qualifying at Silverstone. The Briton put on a stunning display for his home fans as he won the 67th pole position of his career – and with the biggest margin of the season so far. The pole position puts him 1 behind Michael Schumacher, who has 68 pole positions. This will be a record Hamilton will hope to break before the end of the season. Championship leader Vettel was third, ahead of Valtteri Bottas. Bottas however, was to start ninth after a five-place grid penalty. Verstappen was fifth while Nico Hulkenberg took a superb sixth for Renault.

Main Race

Having earned pole position, the race was pretty straightforward for Hamilton. Hamilton was 1.6 seconds clear after the first lap before the race was neutralized by a safety car following collision between the Toro Rosso drivers. After the restart, Hamilton went clear, building a 3.1 seconds lead after 12 laps and face seconds after 18.
On a perfect afternoon at his favourite track, Hamilton delivered in style for his fans, setting the fastest lap of the race. Sebastian Vettel suffered a puncture on the penultimate lap to finish in seventh. His spot could only earn him six points. Kimi Raikkonen was also poised to finish second but he also suffered a puncture in the closing moments to promote Bottas one spot as Mercedes completed a remarkable one-two finish. Bottas started ninth but stormed back through the field.

Standings

Hamilton’s win slashes Sebastian Vettel’s championship lead to just a single point. He is now on 176 points, just one behind Vettel’s 177. Bottas is still third with 154 points, while Ricciardo and Raikkonen are fourth and fifth, with 117 and 98 points respectively. Verstappen is sixth with 57 points. Mercedes still dominates the team standing with 330 points. Ferrari and Red Bull are second and third, with 275 and 174 points respectively.

The Hungarian Grand Prix is next before F1’s four-week summer break. It’s a tricky circuit with lots of long corners. It is the perfect opportunity for Hamilton to take the Championship lead, and Hungary is a race where Hamilton already holds the record for most wins. It’s looking good for the Brit.

This was a interesting race and Botas was amazing !Well Done to Mercedes and Hamilton of course .Vettel was unlucky with those super soft tyres however he did hit the brake hard during race, Ferrari can not afford such a mistake ...
