The 2016-2017 NHL season is flying along, and your @steemsports is right there with it bringing you your latest latest steemit NHL hockey games. For this Saturday evening, we have a non-divisional matchup featured between the Edmonton Oilers and The New York Islanders, a classic rivalry going back over three decades!
Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers may finally be nearing the end of their 10 (some may say 30) year rebuild. Acquiring Mcdavid basically saved the team from having to start over but it looks like with him they are now off to the races. The Oilers currently sit in first and went on one hell of a run in the first few games giving Montreal a run for their money. The Edmonton Oilers are coming off a 2-0 loss against Ottawa and against Toronto, so I'm sure they'll be hungry for the win this weekend.
Their 2015-2016 record was 35-40-7, with 77 points. They finished fifth in the Pacific Division.
Their record this 2016-2017 season is 7-2-0 putting them in First in their Pacific Division, and First overall in the Western Conference.
Their ridiculous offense has some incredible talent on it with C.Mcdavid (with 48 points last year he's just getting started), J. Eberle (with 47 points last year), M.Lucic (with 55 points last year), and L.Draisaitl (with 51 points last year) getting points should not be an issue. They have fallen quite short when it comes to defense in the past, but this year they've made some solid changes to the lines losing an amazing left winger in Taylor Hall but gaining a very competent defenceman in Adam Larson.
There are no injuries to report for the Edmonton Oilers.
The Edmonton Oilers are a professional ice hockey team based in Edmonton, Alberta. They are members of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL).
The Oilers were founded on November 1, 1971, with the team playing its first season in 1972, as one of the twelve founding franchises of the major professional World Hockey Association (WHA). They were originally intended to be one of two WHA teams in Alberta (the other one being the Calgary Broncos). However, when the Broncos relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, before the WHA's first season began, the Oilers were renamed the Alberta Oilers. They returned to using the Edmonton Oilers name for the following year, and have been called that ever since. The Oilers subsequently joined the NHL in 1979 as one of four franchises introduced through the NHL merger with the WHA.
After joining the NHL, the Oilers went on to win the Stanley Cup on five occasions: 1983–84, 1984–85, 1986–87, 1987–88 and 1989–90. This remains the most championships won by any team since the NHL-WHA merger and also the most won by any team that joined the league in or after 1967. Among all NHL teams, only the Montreal Canadiens have won more Cups since the League's 1967 expansion. For their success in the 1980s, the Oilers team of this era has been honoured with dynasty status by the Hockey Hall of Fame.[1]
So Far This Season
The Edmonton Oilers have had one hell of a start this year. They literally haven't played this good right out of the gate since 1985-1986 when the great one was on the team. Perhaps McDavid shares a few things in common with him. The Oilers despite having significant success early on suffered a 2-0 defeat against Ottawa, as well as a 3-2 loss in overtime against the Toronto Maple Leafs in their last game. It will be interesting to see what changes are made to the lines to regain their early on success.
New York Islanders
The New York Islanders had one of their best seasons they've had in 25 years last year. They played in an exceptionally hard division with both the Penguins and the Capitals and still they managed to make it into the playoffs. They've got decent goaltending, a decent defense, and a decent front few lines, relying on allowing fewer goals in than they score as points. All in all, they have a solid well rounded talented team who so far has had issues winning games but I expect them to pick up the slack and do considerably better in the next coming months.
Their 2015-2016 record was 45-27-10, with 100 points. They finished 4th in the Metropolitan Division.
Their record this 2016-2017 season is 4-6-0 sitting with 8 points putting them in 7th in their Metropolitan Division.
The New York Islanders have a solid all around team being lead in points by J. Tavares (with 70 points last year), A.Ladd (with 46 points last year), and B. Nelson (with 40 points last year).
There are no injuries to report for the New York Islanders
The New York Islanders are an American professional ice hockey team based in New York City that competes in the National Hockey League (NHL). They are a member of the league's Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference. The team plays its home games at the Barclays Center, located in the borough of Brooklyn. The Islanders are one of three NHL franchises in the New York metropolitan area, along with the New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers, and their primary geographic fan base resides on Long Island.
The team was founded in 1972 as part of the NHL's maneuvers to keep a team from rival league World Hockey Association (WHA) out of the newly built Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in suburban Uniondale, New York. After two years of building up the team's roster, they found almost instant success by securing fourteen straight playoff berths starting with their third season. The Islanders won four consecutive Stanley Cup championships between 1980 and 1983, the seventh of eight dynasties recognized by the NHL in its history. Their 19 consecutive playoff series wins between 1980 and 1984 is a feat that remains unparalleled in the history of professional sports.
So Far This Season
The New York Islanders have lost their last two games by pretty large margins. They lost to the Toronto Maple Leafs by a score of 5-1 and in their last game, they were destroyed by Tampa Bay with a score of 6-1. They will most certainly be hungry for a win.

How to Play
Vote on the main post to enter the bet (main post rewards will also be added to the Stake Pool).
Cast your Vote Bet on ONLY ONE outcome for which you bet on for the win (Multiple comment votes will be automatically disqualified by the script, unvote and revote counts as multiple votes and will be disqualified).
After 24 hours, the post and related game comments payout to the pool; remember 25% voters rewards are deducted from the total post payout value first as per Steem curation rules. Voters are rewarded in standard fashion in proportion to their Steem Power holdings.
The Stake Pool:
The remaining 75% of the total payout is paid out in 50% Steem Power and 50% in liquid currencies, the latter now varies in payout ratio after the new fork. To make the process less complicated, we have decided to use all paid out SBD to buy Steem in the internal market to create a grand total Steem Stake Pool.
30% of the Stake Pool will be retained, of which 15% will go to the writer/sports presenter of the post, and the 15% balance towards editing, development and advertising.
70% of the Stake Pool will be held until the event/game outcome is determined.
Once the winning outcome is determined, we will execute a proprietary developed script that will divide and pay out the Steem rewards equally, using the Power Up method, to Mass Distribute SP to all participants that voted on the main post as the entrance fee as well as voted on the correct comment representing the winning outcome.
Only participants with a Reputation of 35 or more will qualify to earn SP rewards, but non-qualifiers can still vote and comment in support of the redistribution initiative.
Entry cut-off time is the earlier of the post payout or the start of the event.

@steemsports in the unlikely event that when the Stake Pool is divided up between the winners and the nomenclature resolution goes below the third decimal place (example: 0.0001), then Steem decimal restrictions won’t allow a payout and the pool will carry over to the next game.
Please vote responsibly :).
