My advice to get a group of people together on Steemit is to create a dedicated group tag. make it meaningful, memorable... and currently unused! Then they can always find each other and any newbies have a ready-made community.

That's one reason I liked the ChainBB forums (now closed) as it was an easy way to create a community. It seems that the "Community" feature on Steemit will be built around tags, hence it is the natural place to start.
