JIGSAW

in #steemsilvergold8 years ago

Hello all, I have been looking and reading about Jigsaws not the picture Jigsaws and not the diy electric Jigsaw. I am looking to try my hand at cutting 1oz silver Britannia coins into jigsaw pieces. To make 1oz coin jigsaws hoping to sell each one so I can keep going. Or it will be a short lived business lol. Would like to hear from everyone what they think? Is it something people would be interested in? Thank you

Sounds like a short lived venture, but casting a silver jigsaw would be an epic series. Everyone who bought the 1st peice would need to buy the rest

We have done the wood brain teaser pieces in different metals but a puzzle would be cool too!

Hello dixiesilverminer, any chance you got photos of your wood brain teasers in different metals please. Cheers mark

yes, here is a link, we can do any combination of metal and wood, this is brass, copper silver and wood. https://imgur.com/a/vC8gO

Hello dixiesilverminer, I have just seen what you made, that is very clever I remember that puzzle. Does it cost a lot to get the equipment to melt the metals?

depends on what you want to start with and what type of torch you purchase the crucible with a mold and whip is about a $100 on ebay or for a furnace and crucible etc. starting at around $500 but then it gets expensive lol once you start you can't start

Thank you dixiesilverminer for getting back to me. Ok I understand what you are saying. I have seen YouTube videos of people using furnace with white bricks. What are they called? Also what size pot do I need for melting the metals? Sorry another question, what is a mold and whip? Many thanks trumar

I like what you said gdwcoins, I like your idea but there is no way I can buy all the equipment and tools I would need to make that happen.

One guy in a Facebook group I was in started doing this with a jewelers saw. Started with no experience but has grown it into a pretty good side-gig or more. He also does rings and boxes out coins. Never bought from him, but here is his site https://lukescoinart.simdif.com/

Cheers senstless I just been on his site. He certainly knows what he's doing. How does make the coin boxes?

Not 100% sure, but makes a coin ring, then fits a coin inside the ring on the bottom to create the cavity. They creates the dome and attaches it. They look great, and I plan to buy one eventually.
