So have you heard of anyone counterfeiting Roosevelt silver Dimes recently?

Ignore the copper color, lighting and cell phone caused that.

The last two months I have bought in some Roosevelt Dimes for silver. Has anyone seen counterfeit dimes? The first month I got 12 exceptional dimes and thought I just got lucky. The next month I got 20 perfect dimes from a different vendor, and now I am worried there might be a scam going on.

These coins are beautiful, and some are apparently uncirculated. Has anyone else seen this, or heard of it? It makes me a little uncomfortable about buying more.

HELP! Is there any reasonable way to test these, that you guys know about? I am either Very lucky, or I was robbed....

:O

Hmm, I always felt safe with the dimes because It's not likely people would risk the jail time on such a small profit.

That is kind of what I thought, I was just worried about getting so many collector coins in bullion wrappers. I am glad you have not heard of counterfeit dimes either. 30% collector quality just shook me a little.

Nice to have experience to draw on for odd questions like this!

:)

I do believe you stumbled upon a real Treasure...
If it were me, I'd go back and get as much of it I could afford...

Try not to put your finger prints all over them...

Thanks, my brother collects coins, and loaned me some cloth gloves. I got some coin holders I will put them in. He will grade them for me, and tell me what they are worth.

I can't really buy more, these were random purchases from E-Bay, from different vendors. I buy bullion coins every month, but I do not expect to see any more of these.

:)

Even on the larger YouTube there is no video in 2018 about fake silver dimes.

Thanks, I didn't think about them. You guys I trust a lot more! I guess I just got lucky. I will get them graded, and see where I ended up.

Stacking sometimes surprises me! Make it a little fun.

:)

Hi @smithlabs, i have bought some Similiar dimes recently — and i have zero suspicions they are fakes. People inherit or otherwise come into this stuff with no interest or knowledge about it. They just take ‘em down to the shop and sell them for whatever they can get. Personally, i like dimes for their “fractional” character, but i have enough now.
You can test with a magnet or get a chem kit.

These were supposed to be from an estate sale, so I bet this time the seller didn't lie about that.

The magnet test I have seen, and will try it out; but I think I am safe, based on these responses! So I will proceed with grading.

:)

Couldn’t help you with the counterfeiting situation, but I’m curious why you invest in coins vs rounds or bars? Or do you do both?

I do both, but right now, they are melting a lot of silver coins, combined with the low price of silver, the coins that remain will climb well past simple metal prices ( due to the melting losses). Even if I have guessed wrong about the price bounce due to melting, I still have the silver! So win, win, ROFLOL!

US silver is also easy to use.

But I have been rat holing silver and gold bullion and coins for years. I still feel that we will have real need of these metals, in the near future!

:)

Most of the Value will be in the Face Value, not the Silver or Gold used to make the U.S. Coins...

Thanks, that is what I am looking into, the face value. If I can get enough for them, I can buy more bullion dimes, and someone can add some good coins to their collections.

Then I can stack some more, ROFLOL!

I will give my Brother his pick for grading them. He offered to do it free, just to look at them; but fair is fair, and he enjoys coins for themselves. The designs are nice, but for me they are collectable metal.

:)

I haven't heard anything specific about counterfeit dimes. I can imagine that since it was the last year they were made it's more likely that they would be in good condition. I'm curious to hear what some of the other folks have to say though.

They are multiple years, Which makes me a little less worried. But they are high mint state coins, and I am not usually that lucky.

Hoping that someone here can teach me a little.

:)

howdy sir smithlabs! I read yours and the expert commenters so I'm sure you got a great deal sir, good job!

My Brother bought eight rolls recently, and didn't find a single nice one; so apparently, I just got very lucky with these two rolls! I will get them graded first to see where things ended up, but I am happy with them.

I will need to get out my gemology microscope and camera for some close up pictures first!

:)

sir smithlabs! oh we get to see tons of pictures of dimes? be still my heart, I don't know if I can handle the anticipation.

YOU don't get to see them, ROFLOL! I will put them on Ebay, and sell these coins so someone can put them in a collection. Then I will take the cash, and buy more ratty dimes, for bullion.

It will be interesting to see how many bullion dimes I will get for the profit, once I sell these nice ones.

:)

haha! ok sir smithlabs well at least you have a strategy. Do you sell other things on ebay or is that a dumb question?

If Ebay was rated like steemit, I would be a Blue Whale (at least), ROFLOL! Ebay is a good way to make money online! I was on Ebay before FaceBook opened.

BTW, there is NO HF or RC on Ebay...

:)

hahaa no sir smithlabs ebay has probably been pretty much unchanged since the founding I bet. So what do you sell on there and have you ever tried selling on Amazon?

The best thing for me to sell is something I can get in bulk, and sell one at a time. That way, I write one advertisement and just re-list when it sells. That way, I sell one at a time, and don't have to write multiple ads!I used to make about $30 a month selling Horehound candy.

Ebay has remained similar (it has been prettied up) from day one. You can make a thousand dollars a month, with a little work.

Amazon pissed me off, so no, no sales there.
