Sterling Silver Thoughts?

Today I want to share an older video I did regarding sterling silver. I know many of us stack silver and gold, and they're my preferred precious metals to stack. However, do any of you pick up sterling silver? I know a few of the silver smiths out there use it for certain pieces. There are also people that try to scrap old silverware or sterling dishes and sell to refiners. I want to hear your opinion on sterling. Do you like it and hunt for it? Or do you think it's a waste of time? I do think that interest may have to do with where one lives and the buyers in the area. In my area the prices are not the greatest for selling it, and don't really try to grab sterling unless it's under spot.

Please check out the video. I show a random bag of old sterling that I picked up for weight. It was a fun mix for sure.

I get sterling silver, but not in a stacker way.

Silver jewelry is pretty much always sterling ( I have plenty of that because I never liked the look of yellow gold). Plus, sterling flatware, napkin rings, tea service, souvenir travel charms, place card holders, a dessert tower. I suppose it is more that these things I like are made from sterling v. getting a thing because it is sterling. 🤔 💭

Many people don’t care for the look of yellow gold. It is cool when one can add silver in other places rather than the stack. I would like to get some like that. I do go for the jewelry under spot when I can find it.

92.5 % is better than a lot of old world coins contain !!!

You heard it right here, MikeGPO said, "...Better than... coins..."

Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold

We love all metals and sterling is awesome fir some items but the scrap is not always a deal most of it is not really 925 when tested so be careful of that

I will keep that in mind. I usually just look for the jewelry.

Find a piece of silverware that's part of a rare set it can go for a really nice premium. Otherwise, yeah... good for pours that require more strength, but a lot of smiths don't want to mess with it. If it's going "in the stack" or to the refiners, then I expect to pay under spot for it. But that's just me.

Same here. I like to find nice jewelry under appt and try and resell.

Considering I only buy silver when I have a chance at getting it below spot, sterling jewelry/dinnerware is something I always look for!

Exactly, let's hear it for below spot!

I bought a few silverwares, which I use at the dinner table. Other than that, it is in jewelry, and yes, I do have 3 925 bars from our friends in the community! Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it. Take care, supplement! I will see you tomorrow!

Thank you for watching. I would like to get some actual silverware too.

Id like a sterling cup

That could be arranged...

Me too my friend. It would be fookin sweet.

Nuthin wrong with sterling! It's 925 man! Great way to add weight, especially at a steal! 👍

Yeah I don’t mind adding some if under spot. Especially the jewelry.

I hunt for it at my local flea market. I like it. Jewelry too. But I find and will stack any sterling I can get my hands on. In a SHTF scenario thats what is getting traded first.

Good point. I mostly like the jewelry. I don’t have much luck hunting it down in the wild.

Sterling Silver candlestick holders. I have several. And have never paid more than a few bucks for them. I have heard of people hunting Good Will stores for sterling too.
