Official #steemsilvergold Weekly Membership Post - Clearout needed? #482
Monday Membership Update Time
I am going to make a suggestion this week and i would like for everyone who is a member of #steemsilvergold to post a comment with your views and thoughts.
It has brought to my and @raybrockman's attention that a few members within the group are asking for some sort of membership list clear out to thin the heard a little. This is something i have wrote about before with little feedback. We are a group sitting with around 180 members, but how many are active today?
I purpose that we have a review of all members within the group every 4 months to ensure that we only keep active members. You may not see be aware but #steemsilvergold is a powerhouse when it come to group tags. We have had a total of $115k in post payouts and are ranked at 149th in the total steemit highest paid tag list. This rank is from a most used tag list but we are a group and i only see around 4-5 other group tags being used above us. We hold alot of contests, group buys, we have a group discord, an upvoting bot with almost a 100k in SP, x2 witnesses and a few whales. We got alot of shit for a small group of savage silver stackers but others have eyes on our teasure. With the amount of giveaways we do and the fact that we have a community upvoting bot bring alot of attention to us. We get lots of users making small quick silver/gold related posts for a week are 2 just to get added to the group to get at our bot. I think most of us will agree it's time to tighten things up.
How it would go down
There are around 180ish members so think a mug of coffee and a few hours alone time would be enough for me to filter through most of our members. I will be looking for completely dead members that have stopped using steemit altogether and removing them first. After that, i would be looking for members posting under 1 post per week are 3 over a month using steemsilvergold as the posts first tag and putting them on a yellow card. They would have until the end of that month to chance ther ways are they get a red card and removed from the community.
The process would take 1 month to complete giving lots of time for everyone to be fair warned.
I want your feedback folks

Can you think of someone that be a that would make a great member for our group?
.
New here but have an opinion.
Why limit membership? You like silver and gold. Other people like silver and gold. What I like in metal isn’t necessarily what you like. Isn’t it about creating a community of people with an overlapping interests?
Not everyone has the $ to stack like some of the more hardcore people here, but that doesn’t make their interest in the subject matter less. Especially, for those of you who pour for business. The more welcoming you are the more likely it is that a small time stacker who has been welcomed and valued will save up and maybe buy a special piece from you. Are you thinking that if someone doesn’t stack like @thedamus or @raybrockman that they aren’t welcome here?
People that are “dead/aren’t posting” at all don’t matter because they aren’t getting rewards from the bot anyway. So if they return later why go through the effort of removing them and readding them? Hopefully everyone here has a life outside of steemit and the occurrences of real life will inevitably take people out of steemit sometimes. And you don’t have to personally follow someone who isn’t posting anyway... on top of that you don’t have to personally upvote ssg member posts you don’t care about.
I would think/hope people have multiple interests. I like seeing your metal posts, and seeing pets and hearing about vacations. Plus, everyone is at a different level in their stacking journey. Why eliminate members who don’t have the material to metal post everyday? If your worried about people taking advantage of bot payments just have the bot reward steemsilvergold tagged posts and then audit those to make sure the tag is appropriately used. Other groups watch their tags in this way.
It just seems contradictory to want to build a community while at the same time being so concerned about keeping people out.
The only reason I can see for this logic is worrying about the bot rewards.
hello @dfinney! Although I understand where you are coming from, I do see it a bit differently, and this is coming from someone whose official membership started today! In my view, and what attracted me to this community, is not ONLY the stacking and affinity for PM's, but the culture that has been created here. With few exceptions, I've found these folks to be freedom-loving, opinionated, down-to-earth people that are focused on improving each other's experiences on this platform and IRL. That is probably why as awesome as I am, (LOL) I had to wait patiently before acceptance. Part of the appeal of joining any group is having at least some level of exclusivity and to me, letting anyone in that just likes shiny stuff would erode the fabric of what has been created over time. A clear example is the fact no one ever voted for @raybrockman or @thedamus or @silverstackeruk and others to lead (there might have been a vote - unsure but the point is the same). It was simply obvious that they should because of their endless and selfless contributions. Everyone is dealt different cards, but its how you play them that counts. It will be years before I stack like some of the people here do, but that doesn't stop me from trying to read every post from this group, getting involved, and adding my $.02 like I'm doing now. I wish you all the very best!
Welcome, @nofiat!
As for saying it will be years before you "stack like that"... I am just saying dive in head first now, you may not have a lot of time before these wonderful "on sale now" prices are OVER! 😳
Good Counterpoints, I run a large group and I have a place where "less active" can still HANG with the Group. But on that note, there is also a "cost of membership" that they are "paying" with mandatory votes for the bot... I also have less outgoing votes than the system can support. FWIW.
OK, I am confessing so don't be too hard on me! I JUST went through and visited every blog I followed and cleaned out all the people who had not done anything - post or comment - in a month or more. Then I got accepted into ssg and set about following everyone on the list. If they had not been active in a month or more, I did not add them...
I guess the short answer is, I think that is a great idea!
@dfinney makes some good points, I voted him up a bit to highlight it.
But truly "dead members", do they matter? Are they Dead Weight?
what the cheese? are you back? yo send me some coins so i can post them, then i'll send them back to you. buahahaahah
Who would pay the postage a.k.a transaction cost? LOL!
that was a joke ... are you in SSG?
^^^ Yo ^^^ Look way up there, members list
🤑 🤑 🤑
I KNOWWW Undyyy LOL
I am talking about the "other" list. :p
Yeah, it was obvious. Did I look serious? Even if it was, I'm not going to send my coins first, irrespective of who pays for postage 😜
yeah you kind of did sound serious lOL
are you SSG or no? I think I asked that ...
Thanks @underground.
I went a few months without posting but i was still active, voting and giving comments supporting those that were posting. I would be against giving a yellow card for someone who does not post often, some people stuggle for time and might enjoy taking part on the brief moments they can. If someone has not posted or taken any part in 2 to 3 months then drop them with an open invitation that they are welcome if they want to be active again.
It will not be black and white. There would be a small grey area for such members that dip in and out. As for an open invitation. I would add them directly to the nomination table and if other members remember them, they will be sponsored and added again i guess. Nothing here is in stone, im just thinking out loud.
i think that makes a lot of sense. it would just be important not to force members to use #steemsilvergold tag at regular intervals. i am thinking in particular of curators, who usually write only rarely, but are nevertheless indispensable. and yes, some members have not been active for many months already. that's why i like the idea to clean the list. greetings
There will be a grey area's. I know alot of members only use the tag 1-2 a month but make comments everyday.
Note:
So, regarding dropping folks off. Overall, I say no for several reasons. I say 'YES' for specific users.
First, YES for specific users. Such as, I just followed @gikitiki , and there is ONLY ONE steemsilvergold post and I don't see any replies to steemsilvergold posts and currently mostly inactive on STEEM, and not really active steemsilvergold. So, I suggesting reaching out to see what's up.
I don't think we need to drop folks overall. For example, I am concerned about several folks that dropped off STEEM, such as @sixersfeds and @missiontothemoon. I have tried reaching out. If you guys know them personally, please reach out to them. There is also @stay-in-the-gray. Are these guys OK? Let's reach out if we know them personally... ANYBODY KNOW THESE GUYS?
We also have guys like @buster544 and @anothervoice.
I recommend our first step is to reach out to see where our FRIENDS have gone. Not with a Yellow card (penalty) perspective. Instead with a "We Miss You" perspective.
Thank you so much for the spelling mistakes. I'm not that great at typing, sometimes i write around of myself.
As far as the membership goes, i think there would need to be a grey area for members that dip in and out. We have a few members that comment alot but dont post. Its not really a clearout, its more like cutting the fat to keep the best meat.
There a few members that were taken on during the time Stax hosted the membership list and a few newer members promised and never delivered. I'm not into chasing people down, but i'll welcome with open arms for those who find us.
FYI missiontothemoon has ongoing health problems i think.
Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold
Purge the dead weight! 👍😎
LMAO! I agree, but then again I need more S&G to post more! Eeekkkk
I think a clear plan of action is needed and the post raises most if not all points, I think a weekly post where concerns about members can be raised by the community, so moderators can look a bit more closely at any issues. This spreads the burden of policing the matters raised.
Make it happen
You do the weekly post and me and ray will check it out and do what we can man
You have a minor typo in the following sentence:
It should be a lot of instead of alot of.YOU SUCK! Go away, whomever thought of you is a horrible Steemian.
🖕🏽
Wat bout U go an play wit urself spillbitch bot
Yea why do they think they have the reich to critisize
Becuz there dum
Grammer; has'nt ever been, my "strong point"!
Typing not one of mein either
buahaahaah I totally AGREE!!
this isn't cute. You would be more effective rewarding proper grammar and choosing to STFU about minor errors that do nothing to diminish the message. Hey look, I didn't capitalize the beginning of the first sentence! ooooh
Mr. Nazi!
You should have used inverted commas when mentioning "a lot of" and "alot of". Your sentence doesn't make any sense at all 😜
