My introduction to the #steemsilvergold community. Bringing the Precious Metals to steemit!
I have been on the lookout for a gathering of like minded silver stackers and gold bugs here on steemit. It is with great pleasure that I stumbled across this new Silver and Gold community, thankyou @madein-hisimage and I look forward to offering some interesting content for the group to enjoy.
I have been stacking silver and a bit of gold for a little over a year now, I have stacked more than I thought I would. I was amazed how quickly my priorities changed when I was saving in silver instead of dollars. When collecting fiat dollars in my bank account I was very prone to impulse buying. Toys and gadgets, remote control cars and telescopes and other things that I had enjoyed and had fun with, but in reality I was just flittering my wealth away while locked into the ‘system’.
Now days when I impulse buy, it is silver that I jump on, which in reality is impulse saving! When I started I set myself a target (in ounces) that I wanted to stack within a year. I think I hit that target in about 6 or seven months! So having reached my ounce goal, by stacking maples, buffalos and other government backed coins and bars, I decided to diversify into some semi-numismatics with meaningful designs.
The first design that really caught my eye was the Silver Shield Pieces Of Eight BU, I found one with a gold guild and it looked beautiful. The story behind the design was what really caught me, there was so much detail in the design, the fact it could be divided in eight equal pieces, with each piece stating it was 1/8 oz .999 silver and on the obverse side, each 1/8 segment had a different unique sword. I stacked a number of those and then started down a journey to the silver shield designs.
I am currently a member of the Silver Shield Group and am quite active in regards to buying Chris’s (Chris Duane) latest designs. I hope to do some reviews on the silver shield coins, with information on the message behind the design. I know that some of Chris’s designs are considered a little controversial to main stream thinkers but I think the message will resonate with any group of stackers. There is also a little controversy over the silver shield group with some of the longer term stackers, regarding the Mulligan Mint and the fiasco at the launch of the Silver Bullet Silver Shield brand and the first few strikes as the mint and owners had some problems. I understand this left a bad taste in some peoples mouth, but the brand has come along way since Chris took over running the whole operation. He has now been producing amazing designs and great quality strikes for a number of years now, so I hope nobody in this new community takes offence at any reviews I do. I feel any issues in regards to 2013 are long in the past and that this community will love some of the designs. Let me know if you are not aware of the Silver Shield designs and I might do an into post or video before I get into the reviews.
I look forward to being a part of this #steemsilvergold community as it starts to take off, engaging and encouraging some like minded people and hopefully we might even convert a few crypto bugs into cashing in some of there 1’s and 0’s for a little tangible wealth.
I can’t wait to see some great posts and content on both silver and gold. Maybe even some stunning pictures. (The ones in this post are my own original pics)
Nice Intro. I really was Big into SBSS when Duane started out. I think he's Way off with Bitcoin! My Opinion. He still puts out nice coins with Silver Shield and from time to time I will make a small buy... @silvernova
I agree, I can see where Chris is coming from with his view on crypto's but I feel there is definitely some money to be made and some fun to be had by dabbling in them a bit. Without causing any offence to anyone but the silver market has been a little boring, a slight gain here then a huge drop there.... every time! I must say I have had fun with some crypto's with all the huge price swings. I am a stacker at heart but I feel everyone should have a little dabble in the crypto's.
He does definitely know how to put out some great coins, and the fact that Golden State Mint has been releasing the BU and Copper versions of his coins at prices a couple of dollars over spot has been great for the silver shield group too!
Why are GSM's shipping charges better than half of what the rounds are selling for. No matter how many you buy. my 6 last purchases have had the shipping and handling at $10.75
I am not too sure sorry man. I am in New Zealand and I cant get GSM to ship Silver Shield BU's to here without going through my Silver Shield Group membership. Chris's good like that, he sorts all the shipping for us for the BU's untill GSM is set up for international.
@silvernova
Welcome to SteemIt & the #SteemSilverGold community. Congratulations on reaching your stacking goal sooner than expected. I have not yet reached mine, but I've made good progress.
I love your "impulse saving" statement. I do the same thing - but I never have "buyers' remorse" because I know I can sell my bullion back, at any time, for any reason - with very little loss, or a little bit of gain. Good thing that Silver does not depreciate like a brand new car does.
Followed.
Any progress on your stack is good progress! Aim high and you will be amazed how quickly your stack starts to grow! I agree, worst case scenario and you need cash, the silver can be sold at a slight loss, but still turned into cash. More so than a second hand boys toy, like a car which instantly devalues as soon as you take ownership.
Glad you enjoyed the post, and good luck with reaching your silver goals..
Cool post. I like the silver shield design medals but they are just too pricey to get in Singapore because of the fright charges and good and service tax
Yea I totally understand. I pay a bit of a premium for them but I don't have to pay an import tax so it is still affordable. I know some of the guys in the UK pay an insane amount of import tax! I will endeavour to show the designs on steemit anyway so you can still have a chance to see some of them.
@silvernova great post. I look forward to having you as part of the #steemsilvergold community.

Just Stating the Truth...
Hello, Nice introduction. I just started stacking about a month ago. Really digging it so far. I actually made one of my firsts post about silver here: https://steemit.com/silver/@j0hndayt0n/silver-stacking Really looking forward to adding to it and keeping updates. Maybe even some gold one of these days! What are your thoughts on pallidum and platinum? Would also like to see more pictures of the collection.
good post and nice peaces of real value!
upvoted, followed and supporting.
greetings from germany
Thanks, and greetings to you from little old New Zealand.
Welcome fellow steemsilvergold member from across the ditch, I am the @silverbug.
Hey there @silverbug it is great to have a few members here from down south of the equator! Lets keep the conversation clear of sports or rugby though!!! We all know how well kiwi's and Aussies get on in the sporting arena! Great to have you here.
Yeah it's a bit of a love, hate relationship but it's pretty even, you dominate union and we dominate league, so it works itself out. So which part of NZ are you?
Yea your right. I agree with your league and union opinions too. I usually stay right out of it, don't really follow either but am a fan of Ice Hockey. Which sadly to say, neither of our countries are all too good at! I am from the sunny Bay Of Plenty, Tauranga. I have travelled to the Gold Coast and Adelaide but that's about it. What part of Australia are you? Somewhere near a silver mine maybe?
I'm in Sydney, I have been to the Bay of Plenty a few years ago, I climbed Mount Maunganui. Cheers
Great post as usual. Great to see fellow stackers gathered in one place, thank you @hgmsilvergold for getting this up and running. You have some great coins @silvernova, very collectable. You might want to check out the NZ coins I just got in, on my blog. Love your take on saving, youve done well. Would love to see some Silver Shield in one of your posts please! Thank you for such a great intro. Better get mine done soon.:)
Great point re: changing priorities. Buying silver brings all the joy of retail therapy but then pays you back in lack of regret, appreciation for the craftsmanship, hard asset savings, the fantastic store of value and the liquid nature of the medium.
I too have some of Chris' coins: my favourite is Freedom Girl, although the Slave Queen offers a nice counterpoint.
I enjoyed your post. Steem on and Stack on!
Awesome thanks. Freedom Girls is a great coin, I think it is pretty timeless! I will be showcasing a lot of the silver shield strikes in the future, I have a good collection of them and can't wait to share the messages behind some of Chris's coins.
You keep on steeming and stacking too. See you around the community!
Cheers silvernova,
